Anybody try new welcome animations for iconic glow?
So I just finished a remote software upgrade that is supposed to add three new welcome lighting animations for the iconic glow grill.
I can’t find where to activate or select these animations anywhere in the OS. I looked at exterior lighting and the only toggle is for iconic glow. I have one of the earliest XMs and missed out on the firmware upgrades. Maybe I have to have the newer firmware in order to see these new animations? If that is the case, it is pretty crappy of BMW to push the software upgrade to the early adopters who are left out because their head units were to out of date to be technically eligible for firmware upgrades. |

I’m trying to get mine to update right now. Dec 2023 build and on the 11/2023.42 Software.
UPDATE: From the MyBMW App I’m seeing that 11/2023.42 is the latest available for my vehicle..so no update for now. Back to your question about the animations: I have an option of 4 animations but it’s not for the grille but rather the DRLs.

Changes the lighting pattern for DRLs and rear lights when you approach or walk away from the XM.

I picked up my XM in June 2023 so it is one of the earliest builds for sure. I just checked and my welcome light is a toggle on and off only, no options whatsoever.
I am really quite pissed at BMW. What is worse than not being able to upgrade my firmware? Being sent upgrades that are meant for the newer builds. So I go through the tedious process and reap none of the new functionality. Plus I have to discover this lack of functionality myself. Sucks to be an early adopter. |

Despite what the upgrade said on the iDrive screen and phone, I also don't have that option.

Here's how I find the settings in mine:
Select the 'Exterior Lighting' from the Home Menu Then Select 'Additional Settings' Next you can see the 'Welcome and goodbye' option as well as the 'BMW Iconic Glow' toggle. When you click into the 'Welcome and goodbye' option you can select from Off, Original, Allegro, Vivace and Adiago.

The curse of the early adopters...but this is a strange one to not be able to activate on those early models.

I understand not being able to upgrade to the newest firmware that refreshes the UI. But the welcome and goodbye light toggle is existing already and should be able to be upgraded as a feature. If it is not available, do not push it to the early adopters as they are the loyal ones that paid full price for these super fast depreciating cars. If I did not know about the availability of the light features, which was literally the entirety of new features from the last update, I would not have FOMO nor gone to the trouble of having the update installed only not to be rewarded. Worse yet, I had to jump on this forum and investigate to find out that I, along with some others, have in fact been left out. BMW, do better.

My XM is on 11/2023.42, which appears older that this software build but does have the Welcome Light functionality. No Software Updates showing as available for mine at this point either.
