Post alarm installation questions
I have my alarm installed on my 135 today.
SA took 5 hours to install the alarm and updated the "Software" level of vehicle. Here is statement on the work invoice. ----------------------------------------------------- Line added for software update/alarm retrofit Cause: EL001 Updated Software level of vehicle 197 W94 282 Updated vehicle software level for retrofit, including CAS. Programming failed after programming 1 module. Restarted programming session. Programmed remaining modules. Complete encoded. ------------------------------------------------------ I'm trying to see if anyone have solution to my problems so that i can save a trip to the dealer again. 1. I turned the alarm on and off, there is no beep sound. (the clown nose does flash tho) 2. the panic mode does not panic any more. When I press and hold the "open trunk" button. it just opens the trunk, nothing else. 3. current time needs to be re-entered after 1 hour after previous time reset. 4. I psychologically think that after the "Software" update, my 1st gear seems weaker (lost power/slower) then before. Could this be possible? (my 135 is manual) Thanks! |

did you check your car key memory settings in the cluster/nav screen if applicable to see if chirp is active or not???to activate panic mode you just hold the trunk button, not press then hold.

the manual says press the trunk for at least 3 seconds.
I did that and it just opened the trunk immediately either while the alarm turned on or off. |

I wish i would have read this before, i brought mine in to have the alarm installed today, and computer totally bugged out. They can't get the programming codes to work, so its in for service indefinitely. They're calling germany to figure this out.

Hey, when you ordered the alarm, did BMW tell you it was the 1 series alarm or the 3 series? I ordered mine a few weeks ago, they did not have a 1 series alarm available, so the parts guy ordered one for the 328 vert. We've checked with Viper and they said they do not even have the specs for the 1 series, nor does BMW, according to Viper. Do you think this may be part of the problem?

hey I gave them the part number in the accessory catalog for the 1 series alarm, so i assume they're trying to install that. I was trying to have it installed at delivery, but they had the alarm delivered and it was missing a part. They had the part overnighted, now they are having troubles with the codes. Viper makes the BMW OEM alarms? Cause thats messed up if thats the case that there are no 1 series specs. But i think the 3er alarm and 1er alarm have different parts numbers.

According to Viper, they do have a BMW alarm that they can install using the original remote (check out their website), and what was interesting is that they said they could add additional features to the alarm. My daughter called several different Viper installers and they had no info on the specs, they called BMW....still had no info. They couldn't give us an install price and told us to try again later. When I had the parts guy look up the alarm for the 128 conv, he hunted, and hunted and finally called someone and said "oh, that'll work?" He then looked up the part under the 3 series. Can you give me the part number for the 1, so I can compare?

so, seems like Scully is on the same boat. My SA finally got a new software update from BMW NA to get my alarm working "partially" this Fri. The hood sensor and audible beep is finally working. Now, the panic alarm still bad, need to take it in again later after they get new updates.:iono:

hey i picked it up back up today after a new software upload was obtained from a BMW rep who came down from corporate headquarters. All good to go now. It was in the shop since Friday, but the car feels fine after the software update, no power problems, the butt dyno still says quick.

Congrats Scully.
I'm going in again this Friday to update the software. This time it's gonna fix the panic alarm problem, I hope.... Scully, how is the alarm chime level on your 135? Mine is so quiet, I can't hear it most of time. I dont find anywhere that I can set the chime level. Anyone know? or I need to take it in to make it louder? |

The latest Progman (V29.02.00) fixes any programming issues with the DWA alarm system. Make sure the dealer has version 29.02.00 installed, since 29.01.00 or older will not work correctly. Once again, that number is 29.02.00.

Finally! The alarm is working with every function.
The chirp is much louder and the panic alarm is working. Can't be happier. On the work order, it only stated a "Special Software" was applied to the car. There is no version number listed. Wonder what the special software is, will it also boost my hp? Anyways, bunch of thanks to my SA, Chris, never give up on the issue (plus a free 1200 mi oil change) and the BMW Field service guy who came over to fix the software up. |

I too ordered the alarm. When I picked up the car last saturday, I asked if there was any trouble with the alarm install... my CA admited there was, but told me a BMWNA rep came down and personally updated the software and inspected it. My chirp is loud, so is the alarm, and all seems well  This car is such a beast!
edit: Forgot to mention my dealership was Classic BMW (Plano TX)... Top notch place!
