Engine choice
Hi
My sister in law has a thing about 1-series 5-doors, and I may buy her (a used) one as she's in need of some help at present - tough times. As I know very little about the engine choices, what's available and which are the better engines? Not sure whether she'd go diesel or petrol or petrol - probably the former as she covers lots of M-way miles. Thanks in advance. |

Over here we have only 1 diesel, the 120d. For petrol you can go 118i, 120i or 130i. The 120d is the go, very torquey - 340Nm/1750rpm. Good for 0-62mph in 7.8 secs.
The 130i is the stonker of the range. 6.1sec 0-62

You can't beat the Diesel. I think the folks from 5th gear did a run from Copenhagen to London on a single tank. I know I am breaking 1000 km on a tank with the 120d if I don't put my foot into it. The 120d is also extremely sporty, great fun to drive.
