Will the wider rear rims/tires fit on the front?

Does anyone know for sure if the rear tire/rim combo will fit on the front? I have heard that it may not, but for me this would solve the understeer issue with out changing the rear sway bar. It would probably help stopping and hurt fuel mileage as well. Any one know difinitively?

Assuming you mean a 135i, the 245 tires will not fit on the 7.5" wide front wheels. As for using the 8.5" wheels on the front, that depends on the offset difference (if any) between the front and rear. Someone posted that the offsets were 49/52. If they are that close, then putting rears on the front will have them sticking out of the fenders, by my guess. You'd have better luck putting 128 rears on the front.

I believe the stock rear offset is 47 mm so the rears will fit on the front with a 5-10mm spacer. I'm pretty sure a 5 will cut it. I currently have a set of 17X8.5 38mm offset with 245 40 17 tires(almost the exact diameter and width as the stock tires)on the front of my car with about 7-8mm clearance to the strut and they don't stick out of the fenders.

a large offset like 49-52 tucks the wheel in further a smaller offset like 30-35 pushes the wheel out further

Correct, assuming common wheel width. Offset moves the centerline of the wheel in/out. However my point (which was clear in my head, but not in what I typed :biggrin is this: The rears are 1" wider at 8.5", so setting aside the strut clearance issue, unless the offset of the rears is 13mm greater than the fronts, you then have the outboard side of the rim already sticking farther out ~13mm than the 7.5" front wheel does. If both wheels were the same offset, with no other changes the 8.5" rears would have the outer flange ~13mm (half the width difference) father outboard. Now, if there is a strut clearance issue and one needs to put a spacer behind the wheel, that adds further to this problem.

As always, easiest way to know is to have a nice forum member who already has one to give it a try.

Several places in the 135i specs, including the sticky at the top of this forum, show 135i wheel offset to be 49 front and 52 rear for the OE 264 and 261 18x7.5 front and 18x8.5 rear wheels.

I believe that to be correct because I was just looking for the offset on my stock rear wheels and the only number I could fined was a 52. it said ST52 instead of the usual ET52 or it could have been my eyes. so a 10mm spacer would be perfect. someone with a 10 mm spacer hanging around try this  I've only got 15mm spacers hanging around

WOW those are big offsets. Those tires are really tucked in. A wider tire would be very close to inner parts i would guess.

Have you tried driving hard with these? Do they scrap the fenders on compression?

A 10m or 12 mm spacer might do the trick.
