Don't mix...Unfortunately, I don't have a garage for this upcoming hurricane season in South Florida...Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do if a hurricane does decide to pass through?

I've only gotten 2 dents on my cars over the past two years and they were both from hurricanes.

Just drive away - even a garge won't help much if the 'cane hits, unless your house is spared altogether (not very likely). If strong winds are a concern, perhaps an enclosure (roof) strong enough to withstand strong gale-force winds is available ?

Uhm, it's not like an earthquake or anything. The chances of your car getting destroyed in a hurricane are slim unless you live like 5 feet from the water or in a trailerpark, in which case you wouldn't have a garage.

Hahaha...All good points. My last car got scratched and dented...I do like the get out-of-town suggestion. I think that's what I will do if I can't find a suitable place for it.

pray, and make sure to unhook our garage door lift after the storm so you can get your car of the garage. OOO also make sure to lock the garage door during the story, im sure that cant hurt.

You are F#$ked anyway trying to get out of S Florida on I-95. You and the rest of Florida are trying to do the same thing. I would find a big burm(not of sand) and put the Bimmer in between. Other than that not much else you can do but pray.

last hurricane my car was in my car port. which is a joke, because its covered, but not on the sides or front and back. everything worked out perfect, and i had no problems. the hurricane before that, i parked in some office complex underground parking garage. that was a little inconvinent, and i was a little worried about like after storm burgurlary, but that worked out also. you MIGHT wanna consider this if you dont haveANY kind of parking garage.

We have 3 cars a honda Odyssey, VW passat, and 3er.
Passat and 3er in garrage which is bolted and held into the floor by 2 vertical 4x4's. The entire house roof structure has been reenforced. On the outside of the garrage there are aluminum shutters. The van was parked at the fashion mall garrage barricade between 2 cement walls. We love our cars none are going to be clamed by the hurricane

I can't see great protection with 2 vertical 4x4's but heygood luck cause the season is here.

i totally agree with nikki... btw i didnt know they had hurricanes in canada???? a garage would def be ok unless it was prob category 3 or higher most of which, if they even get direct landfall wont be that strong

Hurricanes are getting worse and worse each year. Just a little FYI. I thought about living there but not with hurricane danger every year.

east coast of southern florida is usually not hit extremely hard, i have a vacation home there and have not had a problem in 10 years, if it makes it to that point, usually it goes into the gulf, or it will stay far out and hit or skim the carolinas. not tryign to say florida doesnt get damage, but the stretch from say miami to jax seems to not get beat up too bad

I moved here two years ago when these crazy hurricanes started (hey don't blame me lol) and I have not had a problem at all. I live about 5 miles from the coast and have had a bunch of major hurricanes come within 20 miles of me without major damage. Two years ago we didn't even lose power (we're on an underground grid system) and last year we only lost it for two days when everyone else had no power for weeks or even a month. Our apartment lost some ceramic tiles, a couple people's sliders blew out, and one person in a townhouse apartment's huge window blew out. Every tree in our parking lot fell down besides the palms which totalled about 6 trees and about 2 cars were totalled and maybe 4 damaged besides minor dings. That was pretty bad last year and no one was really devastated.

You have volcanoes in Hawaii, and I would think that typhoons are a possibility there as well, which are just as bad as hurricanes.

Something tells me that I've survived enough hurricanes to not worry all that much. People in Tornado Alley have it much worse, and those of you that live near volcanoes or fault lines have it just as bad, if not as often. Hell, the same thing could be said of people who live up north where things like blizzards and ice damage occur.

Sorry, but I feel relatively safe here in South Florida.

Not only that, but Miami-Dade building codes are now some of the strictest in the country. After Andrew, things here are built to much better withstand hurricanes, which is alot more possible than say... trying to build something to survive an earthquake or tornado. Even if we suffered another direct hit from a storm as large as Andrew, I don't think we down here will ever see a repeat of the sheer extent of damage he caused.
