I finished my break-in with ProCede V3!

Guys, it was a clear, windy day in Danville…lol…

So, after 650 miles on the OD, I took a short drive to Danville with the wife and daughter to get the ProCede V3 installed. Until today, we’ve pretty much followed the break-in process…although, I have on occasion succumbed to the temptation to go WOT :biggrin:. And I'm glad I did, because otherwise I would not appreciate just how much better my car is with ProCede.:thumbup:

We met with Shiv (great guy) at his house and he installed the ProCede in about 10 minutes. Honestly, I’m not mechanically inclined, but I think the install looks pretty easy. IMO, getting the CPU seems to be the hardest part, which isn’t all that bad. And working inside the CPU, which is the part the most concerned me, is very simple. Even a caveman can do it! Actually, I think it is impossible to screw up the install with the new harness – it really is just plug-n-play.

So on to the fun….

After the install, Shiv and I took the car out for about 20 minutes to test the install and for some fine tuning (the wife and child were left safety back at his house). For those who do not know, this means that I held on to Shiv’s laptop, which was directly connected to the CPU, so that he could monitor the engine in real-time while we did dozens of WOT runs in every gear. Now, if you all thought the 135i was fast before, you have not seen anything yet! No time slips or dynos…yet…but on one particular run we reached 0-60 in about 4.5 seconds, and 0-100 in 9.6 UPHILL!!! ...Ok, not a very steep incline, but with a flat surface he indicated that we may be looking at 4.2 0-60 :eyebulge:. Keep in mind that the point to test the install, not to set records. Nevertheless, those times are not bad at all. :headbang:

Upon leaving his house, my wife actually said that she did not feel the difference with the tune. BUT that was because we were just driving through a residential area. Once I got to open road I showed her what it can do with a quick run to 70 - 75 mph. “Oh, now I see!” she said. My daughter though, liking to go fast, said “I didn’t feel it. Can you do THAT again!” The point of me saying is that, it goes fast, very fast, but only when you want it to. When you are just driving around town, it feels basically stock.

After I dropped them off at home, I went out for some fun. All grins, no limps. :biggrin:

Did he actually make any adjustments with the laptop or just monitor the effects of the Procede on the ECU? Not everyone that buys the v3 will have Shiv there to dial it in.
Nonetheless, it sounds great. Congratulations!

For the most part he was just reviewing the effects of the Procede on the ECU, but he might have made some small adjustments.:iono:

It's hard to say if he was making permanent changes to the map, or was just making temporary adjustments to test/ensure that the effects were what he expected. Maybe he will chime in on that, though my impression is that it was mostly (if not all) the latter.

Speaking with an autox'er today, his view, while the power seems adequate today, give it two months. Geez, this thing can be so sedate, downright behaved, sufficiently powerful, until you push down your foot and open the throttle, he breathes fire as it is! I can only imagine what more power would bring.

So I take it your a beta tester for shiv right now???

Please keep us posted of any issues with the car. I personally was planning on the Dinan tune, however, after I saw what shiv has in V3 with the plug and play harness I'm awaiting the release so I can buy this thing NOW!!!

OP, do you have a pre 3/08 build?
I often hear the procede guys talking about 90% torque or 94% torque, etc. settings on the unit. Any idea what % torque your's is set to. I'm assuming you're running 91 since your in Cali.

ktdw-- It was greating meeting you and the family today. I also got a real kick out of driving your 135... it was my first time Thanks for the great write up too. I posted up pics of today (and more v3 info) here:

mistermojorizin- All local v3 users are running the default User Torque settings of 87%. Depending upon condition, this results in 12-13psi down low, ramping up to 14.5psi from 5500 to 6500rpm and down to 12psi by redline. Still plenty of room to grow when the time comes. Typically, I don't like too run a totally stock car much higher than that due to exhaust and intake restrictions. Once those are taken care of, running a solid 15psi all the way to 7000rpm is nice and rewarding

Red135- Most of what I did today during the test drive was just monitoring and confirming that boost/fueling/etc,. performance is as expected. Little tweaks here and there. The idea of selling the firsts 20-30 v3 PROcede kits to local customers is just to make sure that the default maps work properly on every car. So far, I've been very happy with how things are turning out.

I remember not too long ago hearing about the tamper proof Nissan GTR ecu's. Hmm.. The car manufacturers have very smart people working for them but the aftermarket tuner scene has people with similar degrees and (likely) much more motivation.

Although I'm going with Dinan.. I have no doubt the oem ecu tamperproofing efforts will only work for about month or so.:biggrin:

Within 500 miles everything is seated and all the metal thats going to get into your oil already has. The break in debate has raged for about as long at the car has been around and still experts are fighting about it. I would change my oil before pounding on the pedal too much though. I have always done 500 miles of slowly increasing the revs and not racing the motor or holding the same rpm for any length of time then I chage the oil and drive it as I see fit. thats what I do with all the engines I rebuild.
