loading songs on USB drive
I just got a Kinston 8GB USB stick. I will be getting my 135 soon and I am curious what is the best way to load the songs onto my drive. I have the stock stereo without the navigation package and it has the USB integration option. Do you load them as albums? Separate songs? Does it load them by the order they are downloaded or alphabetical?Give me something to do while I await the arrival of my new car (going crazy here!)

its ordered by the folders on the usb drive.
all the music i have on my current usb (2gig) came from my itunes, so they were ordered by artist > album > tracks. thats exactly how they show up on the stereo. once my 16gb usb comes in i'll probably use an alphabetical folder level above the artist for easier browsing. |

I have a 135i w/o the nav package, and I'm currently using a Sandisk mini USB key. To tell you the truth, there's no one way on how you load the songs, and it kind of depends on how organized you are with your music collection. I love the flexibility of the system as the head unit will display "exactly" how you have it on the key, i.e. the songs are displayed with the same folder structure as on your computer drive.
I do like my music to be well organized, so I have all my artist names as the top directory. Then under each artist, I have an individual folder for each album title. And each album will have their relevant songs in it. The names and titles are all sorted alphabetically for you per your folder structure. I do have some "personal" tips for you while you're waiting for your baby. Based on my 3 weeks of usage so far, I recommend that you keep your folder levels to a minimium because you have to navigate via that little knob and little display. The more folder levels you have, the more scrolling and selecting to do. Let's just say, it's not the greatest experience when you do that while driving at the same time. Actually, I do see the benefits and safety of having the large nav display since it's positioned so high up on the dash, and the idrive is so close at hand. And finally, if you haven't done so, do organize all your song track info, such as artist names, genre and album titles. This is because you can then search by artists, genres and albums. I spent 2 weeks going over my collection to make sure all my songs have the correct track info. I'm no music junkie/expert, so if someone else have more tips and better solutions, I'd love to hear it here too. Thanks. |

? If you have a computer, it no harder than placing your albums on the CD tray and closing it. Thats is all that is needed...! Your computer will prompt you to "rip" the album to your MP3 library and you say "YES". If you go into Windows Media Player's Tools>Options>Rip Music tab.. and check "RIP cd when inserted" it will be automatic. Make sure you also set up the "bit rate" to the best quality. It takes about 2 minutes to rip a typical album. It cannot be any easier...! Insert you thumb drive into a USB port and just "COPY" that library over to the thumbdrive. |

Welcome to the world of computers and digital music. I personally have about 190G of music on hard drives and then just download what I want to an MP3 player of thumb drive when I want to listen to it.
