XM Direct Kit

In case anyone is interested, i just spoke to European Auto Source and they told me they will have a kit for XM ready in about 90 days. The kit will work with the car's prewiring so all that is needed to install it is to use the prewiring in the trunk and then have the dealership do the computer setup.

I really like XM and given that the current systems will not be able to take full advantage of many of the changes coming up with the merger, I don't want to get the factory installed unit. This way, I can either get XM now which is my favorite or I can wait until later when the new units become available and just live with a bunch of cables in the meantime.

btw, has anyone tried using one of the portable units in the car w/o a dock?

So, they are coming out with a kit that has full integration and hidden XM box, just like the stock Sirius? Awesome as I have an original XM Direct in the MINI and I have really been lamenting losing that going to a 135.

believe it when i see it, and when i see it, ill buy it

will it work for both IDrive and stock systems? thats a lot of programming, so i dunno if they are going to make enough profit to justify the cost...

Iteresting, I went over to Blitzsafe.com and asked in their Forum and they are still not making an adaptor for these cars.

EAS must be getting one form another vendor if they are really doing this. I have also asked them and they have not responded yet.

there was a post on this in bimmerforums and they basically said the same thing... they've had these systems for a while now, they are just doing one that will work with the 1... they said it's done already and it's awaiting certification by XM

I can't imagine that much work is involved in adapting what they had for the 3 series... :iono:

I guess otherwise I will end up with Sirius once the merger goes through and the new hardware that allows to pick channels is out... I'll deal with the cables in the meantime... sigh

here is the thing... its not hard to change from 3 series to 1 series. There is no 3 series XM kit either

BMW changed everything to fiber optic in 2005. The new MOST system is different from the electronics before. the E90 AND E87 may not be that different, but blitzsafe gave up on developing for the MOST system... thus no one hs a OEM looking XM configuration

thanks for the clarification.... EAS has a kit for the 2006 BMW 3 and M3... (dated 09/06) thought this may have been for the new system but maybe not...

frankly paying $600 for a system that may be slightly obsolete by next year is not something I want to do... so I guess I'll hope EAS or other company delivers... or I'll get Sirius a year down the road from the dealership worse comes to worse

Every US 1er has satellite prep, which means you should be able to plug the car's antenna into an aftermarket receiver. At least that'll eliminate an ugly magnetic antenna on the roof.

I know from doing an XM Factory install on a 2001 e46 330i from BSW that it worked but you had to upgrade that factory radio to the newest radio. So I hope I can get XM on it if not I will just wait on a double din kit for it and throw a pioneer AVIC-Z2 in it and have both XM and Sirius
