too much brake dust?
I've been riding my 128i for a bit over 1000 km now and I
noticed that I'm getting a lot of brake dust. I mean sometimes I do brake hard but still... Am I supposed to expect a lot of brake dusts? Is everyone experiencing the same? |

Porterfield Carbon Kevlar R4-S are my preferred street/light track pads. And dust is reasonable.
I'd also recommend the R4 compound for a higher friction coefficient and racing duty. Right now I don't see the 135i size pads on their website, but these guys would be willing to work with anyone to get the right size pads info and they will bake a few sets in no time. All it takes is to call them with the info and they'll take care of it. (They're in Costa Mesa if any Socal member with a 135i wants to drop by their place to get things rolling) Also, from my experience with them some years back and the A32 Maxima, we should be able to set up with them an ongoing group buy price that anyone can get from them just by mentioning that you're a member. |

Hopefully they will come out with some lower dusting pads for the 1. I notice there are non on Tirerack's website yet. I have Hawk HPS on my E46 fronts and they are TONS better. I had some Axxis Deluxe and they hardly ever dusted, but they also didn't have much initial bite. The Hawk HPS feel as good as stock to me and are very low dusting.

Power coat your wheels to gunmetal.. You will see no brake dust.

I heard those porterfield pads are hard as rock, no dust sure but you'll get sparks instead XD. I've seen a couple of pictures of subies with stoptech or Wilwood brakes have a ring of sparks under heave deceleration. could be different pads, they could've fixed it, in any case just my observations.
