Defective Rim/Wheel....

As I was cleaning my wheels yesterday I noticed something funny on my passenger side rear wheel. It looked as if there was a crack. Upon further inspection I noticed that it was not a crack but the clear coat on the wheel was peeling off. Needless to say I was not happy but instead of getting mad I just figured I'd go to the dealer today and see what they have to say. My service adviser was very helpful and agreed that this wasn't normal. He ordered me a new wheel. The parts manager said it would have to be approved since it was a paint issue. Obviously this is a defect if the clear coat is peeling off the wheel. It's not like a chip or scratch. It's definitely a factory defect. In any case I am under the assumption that they will take care of it. The wheel has to come from CA which should take about a week or so. The parts manager asked which wheels I had and I said the only one that comes with the 135i. He then pulled up the parts list and showed me like 10 wheels. I told him those were Euro versions. Arghhh! You think these guys would know what wheels are on the cars! I've never seen this before. Anyone else have this issue?

Pontiac GTO's had the same problem in 04 and early 05, if they are ordering you a new wheel, you should feel fortunate , The only thing pontiac would pay for was to have them re-done. which never matches.

Why wouldn't they pay for a new wheel? It is a factory defect. The car is only two months old and it is unacceptable that this is happening. Isn't there a warranty on factory defects for a certain period of time? You would think BMW would stand by their product.

You should have told him that you had the 261s and that all 4 were peeling.

Nah, I don't see the fascination with those wheels. I like the wheels that came with the car. They seem to fill the wheel well better than the 261s and look more aggressive. That is my opinion.
