Want low growl

So I want to give my car a low growl. What would be the best way to do it without having to change the exhaust system or does it have to be for a low growl? I know all about the golf tee mod but that's it still insignificant.

Buy a 135!

Just kidding.

Sorry I couldn't resist with the above comments! You guys have plenty of power and torque with that 3.0 liter lump.

What about removing your cats and welding on bottlenecks? I did this on my E36 with OE exhaust and it sounds much deeper. Although if someone can comment.. it might cause some issues sensor-wise.

You have 135 though, yours would sound fierce either way, we 128i are a loving bunch, only interested in our own cars muffler tone ventures lol.

The guy at my local muffler shop talked me out of it. He said it would throw a check engine light. I cannot stand check engine light so i have decided not to bore out my cat.

Does the 1 have a mid muffler? If so you can delete it.
