Which Logic7 setting do you audiophiles like the best?

I did some playing around with the logic7 settings tonight. Here is a little background....waaay back in '95 I competed in IASCA competitions, placed second in the world finals in my class, and was a SQ judge at many events. I was a music major in college and have somewhat of an "ear" for what things should sound like. Here's the deal, though....I have not done the music thing for 10 years now and "could" be a bit rusty. It seems like the Concert Hall setting and the Off setting of the DSP produce a fuller sound with a wider sound stage, but the vocals are almost too wide to be realistic. The theater setting has nice focused vocals that can be easily pinpointed in location and the vocal source does not move around as much with highly varied frequency ranges of a single voice. However, the sound stage is much narrower.

These are just some preliminary thoughts, what do you guys think? BTW, I am very happy with the premium sound system overall.

Well... I've found that just using the spacial modes wasn't enough for me. The EQ needed to be tweaked for each type of music I was listening to.

That's fine for when I'm planning on listening to the same type of music for an extended period. However, when listening to my ipod on global shuffle, some songs sound great, and others not so great.

I have yet to find a "compromise setting" that makes all sound decent to my ear. With it being "window down driving" season, it doesn't matter as much right now though. The premium audio is fairly decent though and was worth the extra drachmas to me.

I totally get what you are saying. I was actually coming to that very same conclusion. It's not worth changing the settings between every track, though.

Ok guys, am I missing something here? I have premium sound with HD radio. I have 2 Logic 7 settings, cinema, music (or logic 7 off if neither selected). I don't see any other DSP modes, e.g. concert hall etc?? I'm finding I somwhat prefer the cinema setting for focals as it more centrally locates vocals 'center stage'.

Interesting, I have three choices (one of which is off). The two active choices are concert hall and theater. i would say that "my" theater is the equivalent to your cinema.

I also have HD Radio and my setting are the same as yours. I wonder if they are just named different with HD Radio, that is weird.

I don't think so as Justin & hghollysprings both have HD radio, but have different Logic 7 choices. Might the difference here be NAV?

Go to menu on HU where you set Bass/Treble, etc. Hit the far right -/- button & you'll go to a new menu, Gong/SpdVol...the last 2 settings are your DSP settings. Those vary whether you have iDrive or not. IE Music/Concert & Cinema/Theater.

BTW if you hit that right button again you'll go to your Equalizer...:w00t:

I beleive so, but you must have the premium HiFi. BTW there are really only 6 discrete channels, the 7th is a phantom, ie a simulated middle front channel(which only exists for real on the 3-Series, etc).

Thanks guys, the phantom channel is great, you can really here it! Disappointed that the Premium HiFi only comes with 3 DSP modes, thats crappy!

What did we pay for for premium hifi then? just the DSP, EQ? Arent the speakers/amps the same in the standard as the pro?

In any case, I love the sound!

Thanks

No, the Amp is a 300Watt, and the speakers are metal cones, above and beyond the standard 160(?)Watt and standard cones.

I spent quite a bit of time at the dealer listening to the 2 different stereo systems. They had 2 demos, one with hi fi and one with logic 7. I listened to the same songs in both cars and the logic 7 was, way better. Very noticeable in my opinion and well worth the extra cash.
