See ya, lads - on holiday! <wave>

Well, I am getting ready to jet off tonight to Singapore, Langkawi and KL for 2 weeks, so I'd better start getting packed and not F5'ing this damned website

To all those cool dudes who are going to either see the beasties in the flesh next week or, even better, take delivery sometime over the next few days:

I look forward to reading all about it when I get back and perhaps catching up with a couple of the lucky Perth guys so that I have something tangible to hang on to until September!

Have fun and, finally:

I am under instructions from my friends, who were threatning to go looking for me, so you never know what will happen!

By the way, thanks everyone, I am now packed and as ready as I will ever be.

I just spoke to a friend with 2 kids and she said "Ahhh, the wonders of single-dom, where you can leave packing to go away until the last minute!"

Haha, well said. I will give you a yell when I get back, for sure. Just a quick look before I shut down the PC for 2 weeks. How will I survive??
Better watch out for too much sun!

I'm baaack, and have been for a couple of days, been damned busy with 1900+ photo's, work and stuff.

Excellent trip and yes, WAY, I enjoyed the food. We found a place in KL that was the BEST asian food (very broad, I know) that I had ever eaten. Went back again the following night with 2 friends who were also there and the other 6 that I was travelling with happened to turn up too, for the 2nd night in a row as well. Excellent food.

On topic though, took a 135i manual for a test drive today and loved it. The only downside was that it's a little cramped up against the lower left leg, but I'll gte used to that and that my new Polaroid's cause a problem with the display on the stereo. Funny, they're okay with all the other LCD type displays I've encountered for 2 weeks. The solution? Bite the bullet and order the Professional Navigation with iDrive popup display :-) Hehe.

Loved the feel of the car, the responsiveness and ESPECIALLY the manual gearbox. It was smaller, externally, than I expected but bigger internally that I expected. I sat behind the sales guy for 10 mins or so and was fine, but he's not exactly tall. Anyway, proved to me that it was okay, albeit for short trips. Don't really like the tray in between the rear seats though! Love the standard wheels! Love the xenons (went though the Polly Farmer tunnel and autosensing lights came on). I'm looking forward to this.

A question, is everyone paying $2000 deposit for a production slot and then another $3000 deposit on a confirmed build? I've arc'd up at the 2nd request for a further deposit, will see what happens.

Oh, one last thing, I cancelled the red leather. I saw an example today and it's just too in ya face, if it was just highlights, I would have done it, but the red headrests just don't do it for me from outside the car.

A couple of pics from the aquarium at Langkawi:

Thanks Cozza, no - I'm not into the Flickr style of back patting, I have a Zenfolio account and previously a Pbase account.

Cool, I'm an amateur photographer, and use Flickr for inspiration, advice, knowledge sharing etc, since I've had no training in the art. I'd love to see more of your work! Where can I?

Thanks and thanks, Kris. I think it's a bit rich personally, we'll see what response I get tomorrow to my email. I was told it wouldn't be an issue a month ago, but the tune seems to have changed now. I guess that's the perogative of the sole dealer, huh? Where else am I going to go?

Complain, or order your car interstate. You may find you get a better deal interstate.

Your dealer is only making money from your deposit, I say keep it in your bank for as long as possible!

Cozza, my Pbase site is at: http://www.pbase.com/simonb and my Zenfolio site is at: http://simonb.zenfolio.com.

A fair few of the galleries on Zenfolio are passworded, just 'cos they have friends and kids in them (nothing sus), let me know if you want the password. I'm still working on the Singapore / Malaysia photo's.

Here's another few favourites.

The Singapore 'Eye':

The Raffles 'Long Bar':

Doesn't the 5D produce great images? ISO 1600 is so nice and clean.

17-40 F4 lens?

Thanks Kris, I wondered if you'd remember Yes, the last 2 are hand held with no support at all, so I was amazed at how good they came out. I'm still pushing the limits with this combo. There's limited PP done on these really only cropping, some colour adjustments and WB tweaking.

No, it's the 24-105 IS lens. I left the 24-70, which is a better lens (quality wise) in my opinion, at home with a friend who was shooting a wedding while I was away.

I lashed out in KL and bought a 16-35 MkII which I'd been lusting over after I sold the 10-22 I had with the 20D and am very happy other than slight vignetting at 16mm (which I can easily get rid of with LightRoom).
