Will a dealer accept a trade-in now if deliv expected in 4 months?

I was wondering if a dealer would accept my trade-in immediately despite a 4 months or so wait?

The reason for this is that 4 months is a fairly long time and anything could happen to a trade-in, possibly devaluing significantly.

Cheers,

Alex

Depends on what you are trading..
My dealer took my car in Feb..
And he sold it the next day..
Prob depends if they are to wholesale your car out ot keep it in stock.

as a consumer it depends on your contract too. some dealers will give you a fixed price till your new car turns in other will reassess.

My BMW dealer gave me a firm price on my Falcon that they would hold until September. The problem is, understandably, it's a couple of $K below what I can get elsewhere. At least it gives me some options before I have to sort it in September.

I was given a good trade in val under the condition they take possession right away..
Left me no option really..
Hang on for three months and try sell privately..and if I dont sell then the val is reduced..
No brainer in the end..

Then that was someone else that sold its car and now has to catch the bus, me I am catching the train, but very soon, I'll get back to cars.
In the end if you sell the car privately you will get a better price than the one that the dealer might give you.

And, to me anyway, it's not always worth the hassle. I am okay with taking a couple of thou hit by selling to a dealer if it's quickly done with no hassle. Saves all the pain (imagined, true - as I have never done it) of selling it privately.

We'll see what happens closer to September. I have an offer of $2.5K more from a Ford dealer for a cash sale now. They won't hold until September, but I don't have 2 more cars in the garage! They're happy for me to talk to them again closer to delivery and Auto Classic said that they may be able to assist as I am buying under Corporate.

Thanks for the replies guys. A private sale is not an option as there are privacy concerns plus I dont have time for tyrekickers & timewasters. Last two cars I tried the private way...not again.

I tried to move my 530i Sport privately but like Alext, I couldn't be bothered with the tyre kickers. One bloke came over in an E46 M3 that he had to sell first .... never saw him again. The other was an old bloke tossing up between my 530 and an Audi R8 - come on?? In the end I traded it on the 135i in February on my July delivery. I got $90k trade - they put it in the yard at $99k.....it's still there this week at $94k. Guess the market for 530's is a bit flat

I had ONLY one looker after 3 weeks advertising..
She was trying to compare my 05/330Ci to a R32 New purchase..
Two completely diff cars..Drove me nuts..
Test drive lasted about 2 mins before I told her to get out of the car and I will drive.
She had NO IDEA how to drive.... How Scary..
Took the car to the dealer the next day and agreed to his trade offer.
Not worth the headache.
