Another Square Setup Thread (22" x 10.5", all 4 Corners)
Hey folks,
I'm reading my heart out over here and I'm still not completely understanding if what I'm looking to do is wise and/or possible. Currently shopping the below setups: -HRE FF10 (silver) -Vossen HF-7 (silver) -Vorstenier VFF-107 (graphite) In all 3 instances, I want a square setup. So I believe in all 3 instances, I need to get: FRONTS and REARS: 22x10.5" wheels, 5x112 lug, 35 offset I want to be able to rotate my tires as needed which is why I opted for identical offsets on the front and rears. I would then get H&R spacers for the front and/or rear to make everything look the way I want. Is this practical or should I consider a different approach? |

You will get more expert opnions than this, but I would think you'd go 9.5" on all four corners as you don't need or probably want 315s on your front tires. And, I think there's other issues with the struts or brakes if you try to put 10.5" wide wheels on the front, but I'm not positive about that... I just think if you were squaring up, you'd do 9.5" front and back and go with 285 width on all four. Someone else will be able to speak more effectively on this. Maybe I'm wrong.

That's what I was thinking too but I've had a few people offer up 10.5" wheels for the front (like the link below) which has me lost...

I wouldn't go with 10.5 for square due to front suspension. 10" et27-et23 would work great. Mine are 21x10 et27 on 285/45, you could go 22x10 et25 285/40 with no problem.

Thanks! Those look great, will check out ORT.
So 10" could be et 23-27, thanks for that. Then I know 9.5" is et 36 which is what I currently have... Time to poke around some more. |

You’re going to be kicking up all manner of road debris along the side of your fenders with 10.5 on the front.
The fronts on my XB7 are 9.5” ET36 and I sandblasted the shit out of my wheel wells and the bottom part of my fenders after driving on a section of road that was covered in pea gravel. Tread carefully! (pun intended) |

Your '21 X7 likely has the same wheel setup as my '22 M50i:
Front: 9.5" x 22" ET32 275/40R22 Rear: 10.5" x 22" ET43 315/35R22 If you're considering 10.5" wheels on the front, I assume you want to mount 315/35R22s (or something wider) there. Schedule an appointment at a tire dealer or garage, and have them put one of your rear tires on the front. If you want to be absolutely accurate, add a stack of washers totaling 0.3" as temporary spacers to make the rear wheel's ET43 match your intended ET 35. Then run your steering wheel stop to stop and observe where the tire and/or wheel interference is. Wheel spacers are an option at the expense of longer lug bolts and paint damage. Then, as others have opined, go with a set of 9.5" x 22" wheels and 275/40R22 tires in all 4 places. If width is important, you might be able to cram in a 285 width, but the resulting tire aspect ratio will likely change the circumference from OE, and you'll end up with some slight speedometer error. If you go this route, try to stay under 3% so that your error will be 2 mph or less at normal highway speeds. |

Thanks folks. So I'm seeing a bunch of peeps running the HRE 10.5" up front with a 35 offset.
I'm thinking I'm going to run the below on all 4 corners: Vossen HF7-2M49 - HF-7 22x10.5 / 5x112 / ET35 / Deep Face / 66.5 - Silver Polished |

I hate to be "Debbie Downer" but will a square set up beyond OEM impact the transfer case?

Still working that out lol
That's my next dilemma... At this point I'm going to see what black Friday deals Vossen puts out, they have done almost 50% off certain sets in previous years and I'm in no rush with 2 little ones running my life. |

There’s some great notes here. I’m trying to figure out my winter or all season setup before it’s too late. I was thinking it’s crazy to have a winter set, but then I was thinking how I use to have chrome summer sets.
Are there any photos of squared vs staggered? Does it make that much of a difference look wise? I have black 758 22s with pretty much new summer tires (premium contact). They are a bit of a pain to clean with all of the spokes. I learned to go with a simple set of 5 spokes over the years. OEM rims are crazy - $4k for a set used. Maybe a little less for OEM 21 w/ all seasons. Staggered 22” snow tires are $2000 or $2700 on tire rack. Seasonal tire changes seems like asking for problems. 20” MSW with blizzak snow tires and sensor are $2500 on tirerack. I was looking at a 22” set on tirerack. It seems like they have all season if you go with a squared setup. I’ve have great experience with Yokohama geolander on the my past full sized suvs. $1300 for geolander x-cv. $3000 with rims, mounting, sensors. I prefer aftermarket over OEM rims. It seems like I can offset the cost of new 22” rims with all seasons by selling the OEMs. I’ve had full sized GMs all my life, summer performance tires has never been critical. Is there going to be a noticible difference with summer22/winter20 vs all season 22? All seasons with the few inches of snow Long Island and Vermont get never has been an issue in the past. Or better yet all season on 20” since they are a fraction of the price and these tend to eat tires. |
