Can iPod/USB Adapter Be Installed at 'Stealership?'
A convertible I'm looking at doesn't have this option, and was wondering if it can be installed at the 'stealership' as if it were factory.
Curious whether it can be done, and if so, for how much? YT |

I don't believe the 6FL (iPod/USB) option can be dealer-installed.
BMW offers another iPod adapter this is installed by dealers, but it is not the same: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8682 |

Check crutchfiled.com to see if an adapter is available yet. On my Mini I simply plugged the iPod adapter ($120) onto the end of the factory wire for an ext. cd changer. I control the iPod through the radio controls.

The USB audio interface can be installed at the dealer level. I am having mine dealer installed although it will cost a few more dollars. I suspect it is no more then some wiring and the interface. I cant see the factory head unit being different.

To the contrary.
I'd recommend having it factory-installed for anyone who is considering iPod connectivity. The iPod & USB adapter option must be selected when ordering. Quote:
6FL, or the iPod/USB adapter, is a installed-at-factory-only option and is superior to the installed-by-dealer iPod Interface option. In other words, you can still have an adapter installed by the dealer, but it will interface only with iPods. Additionally, it won't be as nicely integrated, and the adapter will not accept USB mass storage devices for music playback. This costs $320 plus labor charges. |
