May VFACTS numbers for 1 Series coupe/convertible sales

Thought this may be of interest:

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries VFACTS data for May 2008 New Vehicle Sales has just been released. It shows that 157 BMW 1 Series coupes/convertibles were sold nationally in May (around 5 per day), bringing the total for the year-to-date up to 182.

As a comparison, 68 Audi TTs, 177 Mini Coopers, and 49 Nissan 350Zs were sold in May.

The 1er is definitely in high demand!

Cozza, what's your source? Are you sure that doesn't include 1 series hatches?

If they are Coupés / Verts, I would have thought they were ordered cars, rather than delivered (Given deliveries started May 19/20).

I also reckon that any orders placed before May (ie most of us here), were probably held over by BMW and released in May.

If that number is correct, it's going to be interesting. BMW Doncaster in Feb told me that the Australian allocation, for all Coupés / Verts was 200! If that's true, there are only 13 left until next May? :iono:

I've heard different allocation numbers ranging from 200 to 500 1ers. Not sure what varieties:iono:

As per my post, the source is the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries VFACTS data for May 2008. I work in the automotive industry and get this data every month. I'll post June's data once I get it so we can see what happens over the next month. This definitely does not include the hatch. See below:

Well there you go. Tried the Google thing last night and got no where near that info.

Thanks.

They are interesting figures. Would seem that allocation will get closer to 500 rather than 200 you would think.

Not as rare as I'd originally thought / hoped.

Though, if the EDD is now pushed out to May 09, maybe there is an allocation of 200 per annum. Anyway, you didn't buy yours to be a rare car driver, did ya Dodgy?

As stated in the other thread, I thought the limit of 200 units was imposed on the 135 spec, not with the other engine specs

i read that as saying that a minimum of about 25 coupes and convertibles were likely on the road just after the launch date. the rest of those reported are somwhere advanced in the pipeline (likely already on a boat). 318 more will probably be "officially reported" before 31/12/08 but are being spaced out over the rest of the year even. something like that anyway.

So does this mean, if I decide on a 135i coupe over the coming months, the earliest I'll actually get one is from May '09 onwards ??? shieeeet !

Is this based on registrations? If so wouldn't these numbers include the demos that the 43 dealers have? gotta be at least 80 cars registered to dealers out of this lot.

Nope, VFACTS data is based upon retail sales, not registrations. Demo vehicles don't account for any of these numbers.

'Course I did.

Got the car because I think its great (as we all do).

Did like the idea that they'd be uncommon though.

You can still buy a brand new Monaro from HSV - which calls their model the GTO Coupe... only the 'basic Holden variant' ceased in late 2005.

But some reports still refer to them (HSV's) as a Monaro...

More incredibly, who's the nong who forked out a million for a Maybach? That's the second one sold this year, compared with 0 in 2007, 1 in 2006, 3 in 2005 and 5 in 2004.
