GC 0w-30 seems to be the preferred oil. Any reason behind that? I just picked up a case of the BMW 5w30 synthetic for my first oil change. Should I get GC 0w-30 instead or am I fine with the BMW oil?

I think you're good to go with the BMW oil. GC 0-30 is popular because it is held in high regard at bobstheoilguy.com
