Reduce the amount of brake dust
Ok,
I know this may sound dumb... but Iv'e ot a grand total of 244mi on my new 135, and its wheels are nearly black. My sti had some nice brembos on it, etc, however I dont think I ever in the life of my car had my wheels that dirty. Is there anything that can be done in anyone's expeirence here? Coating for wheels so dust doesnt accumulate as much etc.. ? thanks |

This is a very common thing with BMW's. Several postings on the site have mentioned waxing the wheels after cleaning them off to prevent brake dust from sticking.

BMW is known for there brake dust, I hated it on my 325xi. Only thing you can do is change to different brake pads or you can use Jetseal 109. Works like magic.

I did wax my wheels with Meguiar's NXT polymer wax and there is a noticable difference on how much brake residue sticks to the wheels.

Get ceramic pads when you can. Not only does it minimizes brake dust, it's also much quieter and able to handle more pressure than the conventional brake pads.

I'm still waiting for Axxis/Pagid pads to come out. I hope they are much cheaper than TurnerMotorSports pads.

You may want to look at this http://www.coolcarbonperformance.com/ as they have front and rear for all BMW including 1 series.
Only had then a few days but I’m very impressed. They are stronger and modulate better than stock pad in the cold. So far zero fade at my favourite testing ground where usually the stock pads will fade quickly....track day tomorrow so I expect these to be fade free. These are the first track/street pad that actually stop hard at any temperature and put the DS2500 I had to shame. Best part, 70% less dust when driving normally but they do dust a storm at track speed but still less than the stock pads. FYI, these pads have been on the market less than 6 months but in R&D for many years. The 1 & 3 series just released this month. Orb |
