Advice on my new-to-me 2021 X7 M50
Hey friends,
I just sent the wire for my new-to-me 2021 X7, and plan to pick it up later this week! Coming back to BMW after many years away, and very excited! She’s a X7 M50i with 36,000 miles, and:
I’m not sure if it is missing any options. Would love to know! I got it for $53k, which matches KBB, but feels cheaper compared to the market. Who knows, maybe it’s just an average deal. Still love the car and don’t regret it. Anyway, build date is 7/21, so I expect the warranty is ending 7/25, which puts me in a bind. I’ve always understood that BMW will allow me to purchase an extended warranty as long as the current one is still active. How long is that warranty? If I don’t purchase it, I’d probably keep the car for ~12 months. If I do purchase, then 18-30 months. Would you recommend it? Is it worth what it costs?… and what does it cost? Any other things I need to know? I believe this car got through the Covid cuts unscathed. Any tips on maintenance to take care our outside the norm that’s a problem with these cars? Thanks, and super excited!

BMW will sell you an extended warranty so long as it’s still under the manufacturers warranty. There are different durations and coverage levels. Go out to the BMW website you should be able to find it. At the top end, the +4 year platinum bumper to bumper extension is about $6k.
As to the value for the money, I’m not certain. I’ve heard there’s a dealer in CA that will sell these at a discount. I’m considering the same for my 2022 x7m50i but undecided. My original owner had already purchased the extended +4 maintenance plan so that transferred with the car. I think that too was about $6k. |

There are plenty of options BMW started to remove for 2021.
The top tier options are: Rear seat entertainment, Night vision, ambient air. Most builds that have these will also have the excellent Bowers & Wilkins Diamond audio sound with custom processing for the Rear Entertainment screens. Other build materials that started to be removed is full Alcantara sunshade, Alcantara rear parcel shelf, etc.. After that other standard items BMW started to cut as years progressed. Some of the weird Covid cuts in manufacturing was climate control color display screen, heated/cooled cup holders, 3rd row premium trim replace with plastic. A bunch of odd items were taken in the name of Covid. |

Wow, congrats! $53k is an absolute steal for what you described. I recently purchased a 2021 M50i after being in the market for several months and I would expect a car with that spec to be low to mid 60s. Were there multiple owners or any accidents reported?
I'm in the same boat in terms of warranty being up this year. I went with the Fidelity Platinum extended warranty. |

Yeah, that's a steal for that spec. I assume it has a clean carfax?

There is no such thing as a bumper to bumper extension. The Platinum is the highest coverage plan but is not the same as the new vehicle warranty. The longest term of coverage is three years not four. While I don't recommend buying one, I did shop around for Vehicle Service Contracts a couple of years ago and these offered the lowest prices and continue to do so. I have an 8/21 2021 M50 build, the only delete per the window sticker was the wireless charger. I came from a fairly loaded 2019 50 and everything else was there that I was used to.
Mystro likes to brag about having Rear seat entertainment, Night vision and ambient air options that were available back then I think all that stopped after the 2020 model year. |

Clean CarFax, one owner, no accidents, not Certified. It’s taking a little longer than I was planning due to holiday + weather delays, but I’m hoping to have her by this weekend assuming I can get a shipper to pick it up this week! So excited

Congrats on the purchase. Killer deal. You will absolutely love it. Definately get an extended warranty on it. The M's chew through front diffs at 50k miles and are $7000 to replace. I went through Endurance and they seem to be great. Car was still under CPO when I had warranty work done but my BMW dealer told be endurance pays no problem and is the no only aftermarket warranty they LIKE to deal with.
Enjoy your new ride!!!! |
