Horsepower Ratings

I searched the forums left and right for the answer but couldn't find one. Anyways, I'm looking into a 128i or 135i but for now not sure if I want to fork the $8000+tax extra for the 135.

Anyways, what I wanted to find out was about tuning and turbocharging the 128. Are the internals (crank, pistons, heads) on the 128 rated for the same horsepower load as the 135 so that if I do decide to mod, will it withstand the same beating as the 135 or what. Please help.

I think the general consensus on the board is: if you wanna get the same power ratings as a 135i in a 128i package, just buy the 135i. In the end the price will be close to that of the 135i itself. When taking into account warranty issues, resale and the fact that the 135i has more goodies/looks better, it is so much more worth it.

Search around for relevant threads.

Just buy the 135 if you want the extra power... it will be cheaper in the long run when you factor in parts labor and the biggest thing... warranty

Well I wasn't going to do any modifications until the warranty expires anyways, but I was thinking more along the lines of having boost control if i got an aftermarket turbo. But on that topic, can you control the amount of boost on the 135?

Ask in the 135i section.
