Weird noise when turning the steering wheel

Dont know if anyone has experienced the noise...

I turned my steering wheel from a complete stop (pretty much a complete steering wheel turn) and suddenly a weird noise came up.
It sounded loud enough and pretty much like a rock popped to the fender

I didn't worry so I hit the road and drove about 7 miles on hwy and exited a curvy ramp without the noise.

This morning, I backed out from my garage and turned the steering wheel, the noise came back and it got worse.
The noise sounded seriously like driving on a gravel road when turning the wheel.

Does anyone know what might cause the noise?

Thanks.

Do you have the standard rims/tires? At times if you up size or change tires, they can "rub" against the car when you turn the wheel?

There is no leaking and can't recreate the noise.

I'm sorry for the assumptions, i am no mechanic...
Could the weird noise come from
1. bad ball bearing?
2. broken power steering?
3. dislocated control arm?
4. other?

Yes, they were similar to what I heard on the first and second day.
Since then... I couldn't recreate the problem and it seems okay so far. (knock on wood)

I also asked my SA to check if any mechanical problem but nothing was found...

Lets all stay on top of this. It appears that many of us have experienced this, but it has been spread to at least 3 threads because we all describe it slightly differently.

I have experienced the noise in my car about 5-8 times. All during the first few miles of driving when it is a hot day and the wheel is turned slightly.

Summary...

1. first day - POP noise. Turned the wheel from a complete stop. 90F+

2. second day - Rattle noise. Turned the wheel to back out from my garage in the morning about 3mph. 60F+

Since then, it has been okay so far.

================================

Well, I am not sure if this could cause the noise… just a FYI.
What happened prior to the noise…

I exited the ramp. Mid speed turn + break + ran over couple pothole.
As the result, my car bounced a bit during the turn and break.
Parked the car for an hour and came back to drive out from the street parking.
Turned my wheel and I heard POP noise.
