Help a noob out here, looking to lower my car...
I have been researching today and will contine to research but thought I would open a thread real quick and let other members share what they know.
What do I need to know/purchase to lower my 128i? I don't track this car, its completely for looks and nothing more. Coilovers? Swaybar? Whats some good vendors? Thanks Guys! |

I would just go with springs if you are on a tight budget...for lower ride height and a comfortable ride I'd go with some coil overs. sway bars will have no affect on ride hide. there are SEVERAL quality vendors which sell these.

So sway bars aren't needed when lowering? How will the ride and steering be effected?

just get springs if you are only looking to lowering the car.
i have a set of h&r super sports waiting to be installed. cost me $300 for the spings. install is probably going to be $150. |

sway bars are not needed. the ride will be a little more harsh and the steering will feel the same aside from the lower center of gravity which will slightly improve handling

they probably wouldn't last too long...if you went with those springs you would probably wanna replace your dampers with some koni yellows or something similar in the near future

H&R Super Sport springs (used to be called Race Springs) have been noted to lower the car excessively for the spring rates they have. This condition causes the car to be on the bumpstops frequently which is horrible for ride quality and handling. If you don't care about destroying the great handling of the 1-series and just want the slammed look go for it, it's your money.
The H&R Sport and OE Sport springs don't suffer from this imbalance of spring rate vs. height.

Well I am mainly going for looks but this is my Daily Driver and I still want a somewhat nice ride. I will look into the H&R Sport and the OE Sport Springs. Will they still need new Dampeners/Struts?
Thanks. |

And rafiki, yes, that was a negative post, but also well documented on other sites.

There's a truthful and informative post. Screw negative undertones, we need factual information, not misinformation for the sake of being positive. I would definitely spring for some Koni Yellows with the H&R Sport springs. I previously had that combo on my daily driver. |
