Spastic A/C fan

Seems the 1 has the same ailment as the E46's. The fan goes high and low all by itself.

And before you smart alecks say anything...it is not in AUTO....

In the E46 the final stage resistor needed to be replaced. Wonder how long before this is a recall in the 1....

Why do you move general questions to an area no one ever visits.

I haven't seen this done in other car forums. Now then, if the question was about servicing I would understand.

I have also experienced the same phenomenon in manual. It's like it is a vehicle speed controlled fan speed - the faster you go the faster it goes. I found it does it mainly with AC off and only the center button on for mid-dash air flow. If I turn on the bottom air along with the middle, the fan speed stays more constant. It does get annoying when it starts taking off on its own.

There was never a recall on any final stage resistor for any BMW. Considering AC neither effects emissions nor vehicle safety, I doubt there will ever be one.

Whatever. Mine was fixed. There have many unpublicized fixes by BMW. Now to see if they will fix the 1 series.

The A/C controls in this car are the worst I've seen in my last 3 BMW's.

Don't understand why they did not include the temp wheel on the vents. The new 3's have them and they use the same A/C.

Regulating the heat is a pain. Furthermore it doesn't really blow hot unles you set it at 84, at which point it's too damn hot.

As someone mentioned above this was and will never be a recall issue.

However bmw has had resistor issues from e36 to now. They look different but certainly fail in the exact same manner.
