Brakes squeaking

I hear my brakes occasionally squeak at low speeds (15MPH or less) and it's not a big deal but I don't think it should be happening to a car that's only a little over a month old. Any idea on how to stop the squeaking? I can usually only hear it when my windows are down and I'm in a parking garage or something.

I don't have this problem with my E90 but did have it occasionally with the Audi. I think the dealer took the brake pads out and used some brake lubrication on the back of the brake pads but it still comes back occasionally. If the squeaking noise is frequent, check the rotor for scratches.

No, it's just very occasionally. Like maybe once every few days or so. I don't know, maybe it's more often I just don't hear it because I can usually only hear it when my window is down and the enviorment around me is pretty silent.

You let them drive it? Woah, I got pissed when I brought my car into Tires Plus for my PS2s and they told me I couldn't drive it up to the lift and that one of their serivce people had to do it. Guess I had actual reason to be pissed afterwards because I found a big glob of tire lubricant on my seat!

I've got this problem everyday!

The traffic along my daily commute is really bad. At certain parts, it's a crawl and had to do a lot of braking and nudging just bit by bit. And I here this creaking sound whenever I brake during this part of the commute.

Do any of you have the same problem?

I would say its normal, my e46 did it, but it stopped after a while, no brake problems.

I'm not an expert so don't take this advice that way but you might think about bedding the brakes. You might want to check into it a bit more but I've heard this can help with squeeky brakes and will improve their performance as well. Below is a good explaination of the process.

I showed this exact article to the driving instructor at the BMW Performance Center while I was picking up my car and he told me that it wouldn't hurt but with the OEM brakes it's not nessascary. He said that if you bought aftermarket brakes such as the Brembo or such, then it would be a good idea but the OEM brakes on these cars simply don't require it.

I had the dealer checked the rotor, the seating of the pads etc., for sahety sake and they couldn't find any problem. They told me that the semi-metalic pads does occasionally make squeaking noises. They never managed to fix it but I never had problem with braking so I just ignored it. In actual fact, the squeaking was gone after another 4000-5000kms.

Werid, I think my brake squeaking just vanished by itself. For the past few days I've crawled to a stop and haven't heard any squeaking!

i have the same problem, took it in to the dealer and said, from what i interpretted, that its some sensor rubbing up against the rotor, and that there is no fix for it. they said its a common noise made in all other current bmw's, and that there are only fixes for it on the 5 and 7 series so far, but not for the 3 and 6. any 5 or 7 series owners kno anything about this?

bingo

the brakes need to be broken in just like the engine does, the damage can be done before you even pick up the car if it's been test driven before....

i went to the dealer the other day and the advisor told me that it is normal because the breaks are still new and when they heat up, a layer of something is formed on the breaks. so he told me to drive is hella fast, then hit the breaks til the ABS comes on and do it for a couple of times and the "stuff" will rub off the breaks and will not squeak anymore.

I'd want that confirmed before I started activating ABS anything on my car.

This started for me today with 7K miles on the car. I'm going to talk to the dealer about it.
