New iDrive coming to US 5 & 6 series says Bimmerfile

From Bimmerfile

"We can officially say it is official. BMWNA will be introducing the 2010 models of the 5 and 6 Series soon. Production will begin in March.

This will intro the “new” iDrive (CIC) into these models along with some other cosmetic tweaks. It is worth noting that if you do not choose the optional Navigation system you will receive the current iDrive system (CCC). We will update you with more info as we receive it."

So new iDrive in the 5 series only if you order NAV, if not the old system. 6 series gets new iDrive since it includes NAV standard.

Not in the US we don't. We have still been getting the old system in the 5 and 6 series.

BMWNA should be embarrassed

It's sad that they chose to equip the 1 and 3-series '09s with the CIC iDrive and leave the 5's with the antique CCC nav systems while most of the competition (particularly MB's E) and even other BMW geographies offered HD-based systems for the model year.

Wish I could delay my trip to Europe by a couple of weeks and NOT get a car from the last production run with obsolete equipment... c'est la vie I suppose, but shame on you BMWNA for not offering the CIC in 2009 in the US!

PS - if you look closely at the 2009 US 5-series printed brochure, they imply on page 36 that nav-system equipped '09s have the "new" system... Truth in advertising anyone?

I feel your pain, but rest easy knowing that you paid much less for your car. The new ones have a price increase, and if you were going to get a 2010, why not just wait for the F10?

I rationalize this way. I got my 09 two years before the end of the life cycle at a great price. I also do not mind the old Idrive; Navi could be a little better, but oh well.

Good point. That's what I keep trying to tell myself! Can't seem to find out what the real price diff is yet (the 0.9% locked financing from late last year is nice-to-have almost-free money).

It'll be interesting to see what sort of impact the '09 model half-year will have on residuals vs the "10" when and if I decide to ever sell the car (usually keep 'em till the wheels fall off)... I suppose the reality is that the '10 MY is really just an excuse for BMW to raise the price on what should be a 2009 mid-model-year equipment option upgrade!
