Shadow Emblem DIY
Since there's no "real" DIY on here with pictures i thought i'd make one.
Tools used: 1. Painter's tape 2. Small Ruler 3. Sharpie Ultra Fine Marker 4. Dental Floss 5. Hair Dryer 6. Pair of small pliers 7. Couple small towels 8. Goo Gone First i placed painters blue tape around the OEM pieces and with a ruler marked off where each character starts/ends. I then used a hair dryer to warm them up then dental floss to get them off, i started on the right. This shows the adhesive left after using the floss. This can be easily removed with your finger nails. Cleaned risidual adhesive left with Goo Gone then soap and water to get off any oil. For the smaller characters "1" and "i" i used a pair of pliers with some tape around prongs so they wouldn't damage them. Finished product Overall i'm really happy with the outcome. These are Bimmian Matte pieces they also come in high gloss black but i decided to go with matte since my car is already black. I was really pleased with the finish and quality of them, the double sided tape is a little thicker than OE but it's not noticable unless you're looking for it. Hope this helps anyone that will be doing this in the future. Last edited by BSM 135i; 02-09-2009 at 07:18 PM.. |

Great DIY, thanks for taking the time to post. I'd have done the tape but not sure if I'd have thought about the lines that you made. Good idea.

I used a similar method with mine. However I only put lines on the right side of the numbers. Then I had a friend hold a gift card (soft plastic with a straight edge) against the lines and placed the numbers up against that.

I've got mine, but was waiting for the weather to warm up a bit. In the meantime I've been thinking about how to mark and align them - this will get it for sure.
OBTW - Thanks also to KeithLM for the credit card tip! Have Fun, Rick
