Hey All!! Comming over from a Mercedes
Hey all im new to the BMW side, i am currently in the market to get a pre-owned 335i coupe. i had my eyes on one of the 335i blk/blk with navi. It has 17,xxx and it is asking $30,995. Here's the thing it has a lemon title in california, and BMW buy back, and the dealer in chicago is offering for sale.
What should i do? I really want a Blk ext coupe with I-drive, is it really worth the money? What do you guys think? I have no previous experience with BMW's but i always keep close attention to it. Im looking foward to join you guys soon with my new car, but hopefully you guys can help me find the right one with the right price! BTW, i currently have a C32 hehe. Thank you all! Alan |

I wouldn't buy a lemoned 335i honestly.
Keep looking though. You should be able to find an 07 under 25k miles under $35k, I think.

Probably just a HPFP issue that is now resolved -- but I would want to know what the problem was.
If you can do without some luxury options you can get a new one via Euro delivery for close to 40k.

Dealer told me that it was some electronic glitch, but he also mentioned that check engine light, but nothing too serious. So im not sure. The price is really tempting, but would i get screwed in the long run?
BTW is I-DRIVE worth it? |

I wouldn't go for it. I-Drive is worth it to some. It does include the auto vent feature that is pretty nifty.

keep looking....I drive is AMAZING ....I would hate my 335 it it didnt have it. I wouldn't go with a lemon car though....In my 335i , my motor blew at 1400 miles!!! LAME!! But they shipped a new motor from germany(or so they said) and did an engine swap. Car runs great, and clean title....But that goes to show, CHECK SERVICE RECORDS BEFORE PURCHASING.
GL....welcome to a 'real' ballers car |

Welcome to E90post, alchang32. We hope you enjoy your stay, and look forward to seeing your BMW when you decide on one. In the meantime, pics of the C32 would be nice too.
In response to your question, the only way I would buy a lemon is if that happened to be the color of the leather inside. (A little E90 humor for you. Look here for some pictures, if you're curious.) But in all seriousness, buying a car with a lemon title seems to me as inviting trouble and inconvenience. The car was obviously lemoned for a reason, and thus already has a history of problems. If you can find out exactly what has been done on the car, and if you decide that the risk is worth it, then you can pick it up, but I would opt to pass on that particular car. In regards to iDrive, that would depend on how comfortable you are with technology and electronics in general. Some people hate it, some feel that it's somewhat of an acquired taste, but I personally really like it. One of the unique features of iDrive is that everything is accessible through a single user interface, which vastly unclutters the dash. Instead of having 50 different buttons strewn throughout your dash, you have a single "mouse-like" knob that does everything. Also, unlike many other systems that lock you out of most of the system's features, everything on iDrive is accessible at all times. Virtually everything that I want to do on iDrive, I can do without even looking at the screen anymore, which helps keep my eyes on the road rather than looking away and scanning for the correct button to press. However, the best advice I can give you is to simply find a car with iDrive and play with it for a while. Find a 2008 or older version to play with, if you're looking for a CPO or used vehicle. The 2009 iDrive versions have been significantly upgraded (and are phenomenal, by the way), but typically require a new car. All in all, just remember to go slowly and not let your emotions overrule your better judgment. There are lots of cars out there to choose from, and when you find that perfect one, you'll be much happier. Good luck on your search! Oh, and apologies for the lengthy post!

Avoid. The lemon may not make a great lemonade.

I've personally had a lemon z4 that BMW bought back.
It had electrical glitch and constant CEL triggering. They even offered me big chunk of cash if I were to keep the car but I denied it. Don't buy a lemoned car, it only give you a nightmares. And as far as i-drive goes....editors in edmund.com calls it so stupid and just so damn stupid that it just never gets better. But personally I kinda like it even though it doesn't give you much. |

I prefer not having the iDrive - just hate the horrible hump in the middle. It does offer some extra functionality, though (besides navigation). For example, the iDrive does show which bulb is out as opposed to just a generic bulb-out indication w/o iDrive - you then have to walk around and find out which one it is. A nuisance - my C230k w/o COMAND showed the exact location of a burnt bulb.
The nav portion of the iDrive, though, is nothing to sing about. My PDA phone with TomTom does a better job and is more flexible as you can carry it around in you pocket when needed. As for buying a refurbished lemon - find out exactly what it was. If it is related to the engine or the drivetrain - avoid it by all means. |

Coming over from a C32...I had a C32. Nice ride. Super quick car. I loved the straight ahead speed but I didn't enjoy the drive. You'll love the drive of the 335 so much better. A few mods and you'll be set. Don't buy a lemon. In the r $30K range you'll be able to find a few 335i's out there but I'd suggest buying a new one. With the current financing you should be able to get a deal.
Here's a pic of my old C32 (EVOSPORT STAGE 2) 1/4 Mile ET: 12.891 1/4 Mile MPH: 110.260

Never buy a lemon. Much less one that is from California that somehow made its way to Illinois.

So many reasons it could have been a lemon.. Just to name a few possibilities:
Fuel Pump Tailights / electrical problems on the E92's Waste gate rattle What am I forgetting you guys? You could probably live with some of these known issues although why should you? The deal you are getting on this car is not worth it.. For $25K or less, maybe |
