The primary cats are in our header. Secondary cats are after headers. CSL should bolt up but I have no idea where to buy them or what the benefit would be over other headers...especially if cost is high.

Issue is you only have 2 bungs in the headers. You need a tune to delete the secondary o2s anyway, but you will need to find a way to get the EGT sensor into the headers or midpipe.

Also, turner advertises a lot of stuff for e46 M as for the z4m as well that does NOT work for the z4m so be very careful when purchasing anything for the z4 ms from them and get it in writing somewhere that they claim it's for our car. (like the shark injector, which will not work on our cars.)

any header off of a e46 m3 should work... for the most part. there is active autowork, agency power (same as ebay i believe), supersprint (ebay headers are a copy of ss, i believe), and more. i just bought the ebay headers last week and i am installing them this weekend. several people on the forum have them installed on their car, and haven't run into problems.

No euro headers will work as well, but they arent the same as csl headers, same basic design but they are formed in a different way for instance.

A valid concern, just finished another set today and they were of course like all the rest.

If the Idea of hammering headers onto your engine bothers you enough to be worth 1kish (along with all the other stuff) I would not get the ebay headers.

Not sure the part numbers of what Turner sells, but the Euro Z4 M headers and M3 CSL headers share the same part numbers.

Is it worth the extra 500 bux to get the stepped headers from supersprint? What exactly is the benefit of this option?

So by installing something like this:

http://store.bimmerworld.com/shared/...immerworl&All=

We would be effectively removing the first stage cats that exist in our stock headers, correct? The sensors pull data from these cats and not the secondary ones, right? So therefore we need to either tune to ignore the absence or install the sensors and tune to account for the change in data (so as to not throw a SES light).

Fuel is determined by the primaries, the secondaries read after the cats and look for a leaner change from the primaries. Without the cats, no change, without a change, unhappy ECU.

Most tunes remove them in the same fashion, that is basically disable them completely so that they don't even need to be plugged in (room for a wideband )

Stepped headers are bigger in diameter, the CSL or euro headers only have 1 set of bungs (can't put secondaries in or a wideband if you need/want to without some cutting and welding).

I think you have to use supersprint S pipes with the step headers though, which they do not make for our car.

Here is a thread from m3 forum that sheds some light on the CSL vs Euro header debate. This guy after alot of trouble found out that the pre- 03/2005 m3's do use a different header then the CSL but post 03/2005 euro m3's use the same header as the CSL.

Have you installed these yet?

If so, level of difficulty?
