Where to live in Florida????

Ok this is no where near definite yet its just been floated in front of me that my company may be offering me a a relocation package to Florida to take over a Northern Florida territory.

So I dont have all the details yet, but I would be working from home, although I have to be in somewhat close distance to all the people under me (I mean I dont HAVE to but I dont want to drive a ton either).

The areas that the people under would be in are Tampa, Orlando, Clearwater, Jacksonville (which I know is out further but I just want to be close to the majority of the people not all of them).

So my first thoughts are Clearwater, I have been there before, its nice etc. But I would also like to look at some places on the east coast as well. I have friends who live in West Palm and Miami, not like I will be close but I will be closer to them if I am on the east coast vs the west. Problem is I know nothing about the east coast except for West Palm, Boca, Miami etc but all of those are to far.

So I noticed Melborne, Palm Bay and Cocoa but I have never heard anything about them.

I was going to rent, but with how low pricing has gone down in FL I may just buy a place.

Help me out! Thoughts please

PS I am in my late 20's and single, oh and no matter where I live a garage is a must and I would prefer a water view if possible.

That is all Central/South Florida. North is usually considered Jacksonville west to Pensacola.

It really depends where you want to live and what your budget is. There are nice areas in every location, South Tampa, Clearwater Beach, St. Pete Beach, and some areas of Brandon for the Tampa area. Then in the Miami-Dade Broward County areas you have places like Weston, Miramar, etc. The downside is that from MD&B it is a 3-31/2 hour drive to the Tampa Area.

I would stay away from Orlando. It is very touristy and everyone I know from there goes nuts.

Yea i know thats not really North Florida but that is what our company calls it, anything North of Clearwater is North Florida and anything South of it is South Florida they dont separate it into North/Central/South. So I would be living in the South end of North Florida. I would move to Miami in a second but its just to far.

Oh I am not going to Orlando at all, I am saying some of the territory my people cover is Orlando, Disney themselves is a huge client.

If I am going to live on the West side I will be in Clearwater or Tamap most likely Clearwater that I already know. But if I decided to go on the East side I still (and talking coast like almost view of the water coast) need to be close enough to drive to Clearwater, Tampa and Orlando, the guy in Jacksonville oh well I will get there once in a while maybe once a month lol.

What do you guys think of southeast Orlando? Seems pretty nice with lots of developments. Should I avoid cuz too many tourists and lots of toll.

I love Orlando, there's always something to do. If you want water view, Sarasota is nice but its mainly for old rich people, so Clearwater would be the best in your case.

I cover the whole state. You don't want to live in Clearwater if that is your region. That would be a nightmare. From Orlando you can reach most of those locations in one hour. Clearwater in 90 minutes, Jax in 2 hours. If you lived in clearwater, cocoa, Melbourne, JAX, etc. would be 3-4 hours. I am in Windermere. We have half the PGA tour here including Arnold Palmer and Tiger. Lots of stars and sports guys too. Lower insurance and house prices are good. 1 hour to a beach on either coast and easy access to all the major highways. It's basically the crossroads for the state. It also borders the Disney property on the eastern side of Disney, between Disney and Universal. I'd look at Heathrow, Winter Park, Windermere if I were you. Skip living on a coast unless you want lots of hotel time. I'm home every night.

I hear you but most of the people are in the Clearwater area. If I have to go to Jacksonville its far no matter what so Hotel anyway.

I like Orlando, but I want to be on the water.

eventho u say u want water and not orlando, u can always find a lake to live on in orlando :P hahaha

but i vote orlando, plus we have a huge bmw community in orlando

cfbmw.org (we meet twice a week usually)

if i had to choose any of the areas you listed, and it may seem bias b/c i live in orlando, but i still say orlando/central florida and even more specific, college park, thornton park, maitland, lake mary are all great locations!

The Butler lake chain is a good place also. Sand bottom lakes, you can put a 24' cabin cruiser on there and go full speed. No speed limits and the lake chain is all connected by canals. I hear the water, but be up for a 10 times on your homeowners insurance even a few miles from the shore. If you want a nice beach place, try also Sarasota and Dunedin. Definitely the West coast. Still, for the ease of what I do, Orlando is ideal. I was just in Hollywood and Lakeland today.
