looks like more of an evolution of the current X3. this pic looks like it blends elements of the current x3's bumper, with current 3-series traits.

a couple of things i'm not sure about: now that BMW has moved in the Concept CS direction (7-series, 5-series), would they release the X3, looking like the current-generation 3-series, or update the look, and move it more towards the next-gen 3-series, with the CS look?

If BMW thinks it out , they would go with the CS, otherwise pre-owned sales will be down again. Ya gotta stay up with things or lose out.

I dont mind the looks either, especially if it came with the e90 interior.

+1 If BMW would have introduced this concept in 2007 instead of a refresh, they would have had higher sales and more pre-owned buyers as well as not needing a new model in 2010 but rather 2015.

I think it looks good. Anyone know if they'll be importing diesel X3s to the US for the next gen?

there are several reasons why the X3 wasn't redone at the time of the refresh in 07:

(1) the build was under contract with Magna, because there wasn't production capacity at other plants.
(2) the truck had only been in circulation since 2004, so it was only a 3 y/o car at the time of the refresh
(3) there weren't any other serious competitors at the time. the only one that could be considered a competitor in 2007 was the Acura RDX, but that's only available in the US. Audi and Merc hadn't released their vehicles yet.

now with the completion of the SC plant's expansion, BMW can focus on tooling the plant for the next X3. I'm just surprised we've seen so few test mules out and about. we've seen more F30-based cars than we have X3's (i have no idea what model designation it'll carry). however, given that the X3 is based on the previous E46 platform, and the E90's are being phased out in 2011 or 2012 for the F3X series, i wouldn't doubt the new X3 is based on the next-gen chassis (although that is based on the E9X chassis) than on the current one (larger size).

just my thoughts.

Wink Some thoughts on the new X3

The X1 is being built in the Magna Plant in Austria, it looks like the X1 will be available in Europe during the last quarter of 2009. Availability in the US is going to be spring 2010.

My dealer indicated that you can no longer order an X3, he is not sure what is the plan for 2010 MY for the X3.

The plant in SC just finished construction, it will take 6-12 months to get the facility up to snuff for production of the X3.

My best guess:

Annouoncement of the new X3 at the Detroit show in Jan of 2010 as a 2011 vehicle.

Start of production in SC second or third quarter 2010 as a 2011 Vehicle.

Well the big question is what to do for a year???

My lease is up in Nov,,, I guess I will just see if BMW will make me a deal if I buy my current X3.

...no other x-car to consider at this point in time.

The above design is very safe, but not better looking, if anything the front bumper is a step backwards!

BMW’s second generation X3 is getting ready for its official launch at the Detroit Motor Show next January. With a new bodystyle and increased overall dimensions, the redesign X3 is looking to regain its supremacy in the premium compact Sports Activity Vehicle segment. Before we take a look at the new rendering by Auto Motor und Sport, let’s recap some of the things we learned about the new 2011 BMW X3.

According to unofficial numbers, the second generation X3 will have similar proportions as the first X5 SAV allowing the new BMW X1 to position itself as the entry level BMW SAV.

The “kicked-up” window line that first saw the daylight in the X3 will be again evident and it will be seen as an X3 characteristic, a design element that will be associated with the model. It will also have will have a roof line slightly lower than the current mode, giving the car a sportier look.

BMW-x3-2010

The interior design receives a much needed upgrade as well and according to sources close to BMW, the new design is a step up from the current model and it will be similar to the one in the new X1. As seen in some of the previous spy photos, the AC control buttons resembles the one seen in the E9x 3 Series models, another indication that many interior elements are being used across the line-up.

To successfully compete in its market, the new 2011 BMW X3 is rumored to feature some of the gadgets seen in higher-end models: Night Vision System, Adaptive Headlights, Head-Up Display and seats with ventilation.

The six cylinder engines missing from the X1 line-up, will find their way into the new X3. Various turbocharged gasoline and petrol powerplants will be available, based on the market where the vehicle will be sold. Later after the launch, BMW plans to offer an ActiveHybrid X3 which will use a mid-line diesel powerplant.

The future X3 is moving its production from the Magna factories in Graz, Austria, to the U.S soil at the Spartanburg plant.

2011 BMW X3 models will arrive at U.S. dealerships in the second half of next year and it will be slotted between the X1 and the 3 Series, with the base price set accordingly
