i want wider tires than OEM ?!?

I have an 2004 X3 , i was thinking of going plus one to an 18'inch wheel...i want a wider tire though, just enough to add some width and get the wide tire look...what size tire should i get? Thanks ...

i was driving on 18 inches 255 rear, but you can go for 19 and 285 rear with no problem at all...

go to schnitzer site, they go with even bigger and wider tires!

but you can forget comfort drive, especially if you have sport package.

my suggestion, DONT DO IT!

well, ...i don't have the sport package...but i just want something a little wider on all 4 tires...any suggestions for that? i really wasn't thinking of going as wide as 285...i'm trying to find a good balance between style and performance.

Then I wouldn't go any wider than the optional wheel/tire combination:

8.0 x 18" wheel with 235/50-18 tires

I know, same width as you have - but the main point is that the 18" wheel fills the wheel arch better for your style objective.

Any wider and you will need a 9" wide wheel, and a lower profile tire that you may regret. Not to mention that you will have to carefully calculate the required offset of the new wheels to avoid any undesirable effects.
