Problems with 08 335i Sitting on Dealer Lot?
A dealer near me is running a special this month, all new 2008 335i's that they still have are $10,000 off the MSRP. It sounds like a good deal, but I know that cars aren't made to sit. These cars have been sitting on the lot for at least 6 months, probably more.
Because of this inactivity, is there something that I should be aware of if I should decide to buy one of these cars, or should I not even be thinking about buying one, or am I being too cautious? Bob |

If it's new, and colors/options are acceptable, AND the paint is in perfect shape, shouldn't be an issue and you should be able to get a great deal. If it's still on the lot, my guess is the colors and equipment may not be the most desirable. Need details about the car.

Purchased my 2008 335i last month. Brand new, nothing wrong with it...just the color. Not too many people like the TiAg. Good way to get a deal. IMO, the longer they sit, the more the dealer is willing to work with the buyer.

New cars generally come from the factory over inflated to minimize flat spots. And cold flat spots will usually go away after they are driven for several miles. I wouldn't worry about it.

My car sits for 4 months of the year (during the winter) and I have had zero problems with it. The tires fix themselves after running them a few km so I wouldn't worry about the flat spots either. I do change the oil before I run the car so if I were you I would have the dealer change the oil if it sat longer then 6 months.

same here, got mine 11K off msrp. its a 08 w/ no problems..loaded w/ everything except PDC
i came to the conclusion that the reason it never sold was because the young studs in my city like the common colors such as white, black and monaco blue. until I manned up and got it ! = )

The only damage is the depreciation hit you will take at resale, since hypothetically it's a year old, even though mechanically it's brand new. If you intend to keep it for a long time, then it's a great deal; the MY will not matter much. OTOH, say you were to sell it it a year or two, the value will be decreased because of the MY, but you were compensated by a favorable purchase price.

Six months is a bit overlong for the original gasoline to be in the tank without some fuel stabilizer having been added to it. The good news is that there probably wasn't much of it in the tank, and a fillup of fresh fuel should solve that problem. Warranty would of course cover any resulting injector problems.
Assuming the car(s) have been sitting outside, ask them to put new wiper blades on - the originals are probably shot. Depending on atmospheric conditions, there may be some contaminants on the paint. Ask for a detail as well. Otherwise, yes - you're being overcautious. Phenomenal deal. |
