Used M6 or New M3? Hardest Decision Ever.

Whats up guys,

I'm currently looking at Used 2007 CPO M6 Coupe in addition to a 09 BMW M3w/ DCT. I've test drove both cars and I'm in love with them equally. Both cars have their pros and cons which I have thoroughly evaluated. I would like to hear from current E92 M3 owners.

I currently own a 2003.5 BMW M3 which is for sale, priced at 25,500. If you guys know of anybody interested, please let me know,

Here's the details: http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/1069156161.html

If you're in love with them equally, then it must be for different reasons. These are 2 completely different machines. Decide what factors are more important to you and go with that one. Personally, I don't care for either the M5 or M6, but that's just me.

M3 is a lot more fun to drive. M6 is unfortunately too heavy for me.

M3 is already heavy enough, the extra weight of the M6 can be really felt.

You need to make the call on what you value on the streets. But on the track, I have driven the M3, M5 and M6 back to back at VIR.

The M3 and M6 feel very similar at the track in terms of turn in. The M3 is better on lateral transfers. The M5 is definitely way heavier and you could feel it at the track. The M6 weighs something like 3900 pounds so a few hundred more than the M3.

But power, the M6 is alot more powerful and it shows on the straights. See my full report here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...dvanced+school

In terms of financial value, you get alot more car with any used car and in Canada the only option for the M6 was full or extended leather. Nav etc is standard.

You really can't go wrong with either one.

Depends if you are going for looks or pure performance, because handsdown the E92 M3 Coupe will actually outperform the M6 coupe on certain sections of the track due to its lighter weight and nimble steering!
however the M6 looks wise is not a bad one at all...and its more rare then an
M3, but if you are looking at vert's I would say consider the E93 M3 (not that I am biased, I have driven both!) the E93 M3 has a more of a GT feel to it and is quieter (no windnoise) and is useable all year around (beacause of its hardtop)

I had a similar choice recently between a new M3 to replace my e46 m3 or a 2007 Certified M5 with 10000 miles. I chose the M5. Both are great cars. You really cant go wrong with either choice. It really depends on what you want/need out of the car.

except the new redesigned M5 is coming out at the end of this year, which is why for someone who likes to drive the current bodystyle, will be a definite no-no

You are misguided. It is clear you haven't driven the cars, other than your own (you equate handling with light steering??!!??) and you have no clue when the refresh for the 5 series and 6 series are coming.

Not only do I think that the M3 is more sporty than the M6, but ' New car' always wins over 'Used car' for me!

At the end of the day, I am sure you will have fun with both.

Thanks for your input guys,

I have test drove both cars extensively and I dont really feel a wieght difference in regards to straight line speed. The M3 i test drove had 8 miles on it, so I couldnt exert the car that much although I did feel a significant wieght difference from my current E46 M3. One thing I loved about the M6 is the amazing sound of the V10, its unlike any other exhaust you'll ever hear; it's a unique note developed from the engineers at M. The M3 on the other has a load, exasperated note, which is nice although I would definitely need to buy a Remus, Dinan, or Eisenmann AM exhaust to give it a throatier sound. I've found an 2007 M6 Convertible at 65,000 with 7,900 miles, SMG, CPO. I think this is a steal.

Another major factor that is wieghing in my decision is the 2010/2011 6 series redesign. I'm not entirely happy with the fact that I'd be financing a car for 5 years, just to have it redesigned in 2 or 3 and being upside down when trading it in.

Congrats... Get a Supersprint or Dinan exhaust....it sounds way better than stock. You will scare women and children.

haha i know. Do you know whats going on w/ Dinan? Rumor has it is that BMW is trying to disassociate themselves with them. There are 2 Certified Dinan Auto Shops in North Jersey which are highly regarded. Will a Dinan Exhaust ruin my warranty? Cuz if so, I'll stay stock.
