Winter Setup for 335i Xdrive suggestions
I have 18's OEM staggered with HP tires.. good for now and through the fall.. but I am looking at getting a winter setup for next season while the prices are low from Tire rack. I think i plan on going with 17's as it can get brutal here and would rather ride higher. Any suggestions on wheels and tires? I have heard great things about the Blizzaks but love Michelins from previous expereience with road noise. Any advice is appreciated.

My Xi came with 17's and I drove it in the snow with the stock tires. It's fine but i'm going to put some Blizzaks or Dunlop snow tires for next winter.

I got a set of 17" M6 replicas with Conti-wintersport TS790's.
Unstoppable in the snow, just make sure you dont get high centered!

Not on an E9x but I slapped on a 17" Dunlop Wintersport 3D set on my W211 4matic and loved its all roundedness. I think they're great winter tires.

Just to suggest another option, if you don't get a lot of snow, the Michelin Arctic Alpin has been really good for me. It is more of a performance snow, than a hard-core snow/ice tire.

+1 on the dunlop wintersport 3d's.. Great all-around winter tire, took my 330i through some very heavy snow to vermont and the adirondacks this winter.

17" Dunlop Wintersport 3D in 225 all around had worked perfectly for me. And in this size both tires and rims are very cheap. These tires are not hard core snow tires and may not be the best for fresh deep snow, but very close to all-seasons in performance and very confident on ice and packed snow - conditions much more likely for most drivers.
If I'd be getting winter tires now, I'd probably go with the same rim and same tire width but get a notch taller profile to get bigger overall wheel diameter and higher clearance - roads here are terrible and I bottomed out in several pot holes covered with water or thin ice this winter. It also looks better with slightly bigger than stock wheel diameter - the wheel fills the gap better. Max |

For non-Xi I would prefer Blizzak on 17" for that extra edge on traction. For Xi Dunlop 3D (or M3 DSST/ROF if you want runflats like I do for the winter, so you won't have to worry about emergency tire change on the side of the road when it is freezing cold and sh*tty outside) on 17" would be more than sufficient.

I have the same set up as you do. I went to 17" blizzack RF's and performance in the snow was awesome but the road noise is not acceptable. I would go with something else.

Are you looking for all-seasons or dedicated snows?
My Yoko Advan S4 18" (AS) worked great in a few inches of snow in CT. No road noise increase etc. Very happy with them. I esp luv what they did to eliminate the "big bang" on my XI cuz of the RFT.

I'm running Blizzak RM-22RFT on stock 17's for my winter tires. They were outstanding this winter. We get a fair amount of snow here in Salt Lake City, and I had no problems. The dry traction is better than the stock all-season tires. Driving up the canyons to the ski resorts was a non-issue, even in completely snow covered (24-36" of snow overnight, partially cleared) roads.

See my sig for my setup...Ive had the snows for 2 seasons now and they are holding up great. With an xi I went with the slighly more performance oriented LM-25. No regrets, unstoppable.

i also went w/ runflats... got pirelli sottozeros on the stock 18" staggered setup... works great for me. i was only able to test it in a couple inches of snow and slushy icy roads. no complaints here.

Nokian makes the best speed rated snow tires. The Hakka RSi have been spectacular for me. I didn't like the feel of the run flats, personally.
