dumb spare tire question...

Just wondering. i got a 08 335xi. If i throw some 19s on it. Could i put my 17" tire in the trunk as a spare tire? When i put the 19 next to the 17 they are basically the same exact height.

I think:

1. The rolling diameter still matters the most. The difference should not exceed 1% (based on, er, previous posts

2. That said, there was this guy who mentioned before that the type of tire can matter. I'm not quite sure how important consistent differences in the friction generated by different tires is though.

I've not heard of anyone who tried that, but it seems that if people are using donut spares and they work, I think a 17" tire will work too.

should be fine as long as the outer diameter is pretty close. but a fill size spare is going to be heavy and take up a lot of space in your trunk...

I throw one of my 17's in the trunk on my longer trips out of the cities. I use a tie-down and secure it to the two metal triangles in the trunk to hold the rim/tire in place.
