16" wheels over 335i e92?

Has anyone tried this and can confirm if they fit over the front breaks or not

definitely won't fit. the 17's barely fit

Correct. 16" doesn't work. Those brakes are so large that even many 17" wheels don't fit.

But all e9x OEM 17" wheels will fit.
