How long to install catted downpipes?
I have catted downpipes arriving this week and need to know how much time I need to budget for the install. I will have a lift avialable with every tool conceivable at my disposal since I can use the auto crafts shop on post (Army). I just need to know how long it'll take. I'm very mechanically inclined.

cPe catted with cast bellmouths. The install process should be identical for nearly all the dowpipes, the only difference whether or not you have to fuss with the o2 sims.

My BMW shop charges it as a 4.5 hour job. It can be tricky the first few times I'm told. You have to kind of angle them in their brackets just so. Make sure you keep track of which O2 sensors go where and keep count of all the bolts and screws.

^^^i've done a couple, it's just a little tricky moving the pipes around. the v-band clamps can be a little annoying.
support the engine with a jack stand, unbolt the cat from the exhaust (you don't have to remove the exhaust, just let them hang). mark all the o2 sensors/connectors. there is a bracket holding the lower portion of the cats (connected to the trans bell housing). remove o2 sensors, loosen up the v-band clamps all the way, remove right side motor mount bracket (entire assembly). rest is just twisting and pulling till they fall out. |

Not that long if all goes well. The problem I had was getting the clamps back on the the new down pipes and exhaust manifolds, pay close attention to how they were situated before removal. The big issue is very little room to work in up there.
