Today's Test and Tune best result: 12.98@ 104 1/4 mile

Today was my first experience racing a quarter mile drag so I didn't go in with huge expectations. I have a JB3, Injen Intake, and Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R tires. I was able to complete ten runs, one with a mis-shift into second and all the others suffering from n00bitude.

First two runs were on Map 4, all subsequent were on Map 6. No CELs, no errors of any sort all day. Temperature was 68 F at 1,480 ft above sea level in Rogersville, Missouri, Ozark Raceway Park. I typed them all into Excel so y'all can compare the numbers. I don't really have a basis for knowing what is exceptional and what is just decent. I feel there are several tenths to be had if I can figure out how to maintain traction during the launch and when to shift. I need to get my 60' under 2 seconds. More experimentation is necessary.

just remember RT doesn't matter for your ET/MPH. The reason I mention this is as a beginner at the 1320' I recommend you not watch the lights but focus on the launch.

Yea, it looks like my best time had the best hookup, which lead to one of my best 330ft times, even though it didn't have the best RT, just a decent one.

FWIW, there was a Neon SRT-4 and a 350Z, both lightly modded (intake/tuner chips/manifold type stuff) and I resoundingly stomped both of them, 4 car lengths on the Z, 1-2 lengths on the Neon. The Z driver had huge 20" deep dish wheels which probably slowed him down considerably though he complained of a worn out clutch.

those traps appear low for what you have.

Perhaps but I was hopping and skipping all the way to second gear almost every run. I'm also probably not shifting soon enough. I was shifting between 6500 and 7000 rpm each gear but I think that may be too far out of the power band and I'm wasting time on that last 1000-1500 rpm. On the runs around 103 and 104 mph, I held third when I should have shifted fourth.

Trap speed of 108.25 mph was not bad at all. It showed the car definitely had at least 350 hp at the wheel.

As stated above: Ignore RT if you are going for a good ET.
You can sit there all day long if you want after the light goes and still get a good ET.

60 foot time is much more important than RT for the strip.
Your 60's aren't bad, but need work for sure.
A good 60' time starts under 2 seconds, so any run with a 60' time of 2.XX needs work.

Also, use rollout.
At the strip this means shallow staging.
If you are racing heads up you deep stage but you are going for low ETs, so you wanna start far back in the box and use as much strip for your launch as you can before starting the clock.

My 60' is generally right around 2s flat and I suck at drag racing.
I ran a 13.26@107 in my bone stock car with a 2.07s 60' and 12" of rollout, which is a pretty shallow stage but doable at any drag strip.

Looking at your speed vs ET I notice your best ET dropped 4 mph at the trap. That's pretty significant.
You need to think back to those two runs (the 108mph run and the 12.98 run) and remember exactly what you did with the car. I'm thinking you got a much better launch on the 108mph run but didn't realize you were staged much deeper and therefore started the clock earlier than the 12.98s run. If you can get that launch from a shallow stage and get a 1.8-1.9s 60' you should be able to crack 12.9.

In my fastest traps I shifted earlier into 3rd and 4th.

When you shifted earlier, your trap speed will be lowered.

You think so, huh? How's that? Peak horsepower isn't at rev limiter; its at like 5700rpm. It doesn't make sense to ride it to the rev limiter.

If you shift at the engine's optimal power band, you got the max possible hp and which will reflect in the trap speed.

6MT; I went back 3 weeks later with a more sophisticated launch technique and got 12.34@112 so my poor time was pretty much due to bad technique
