Help! TPMS Light is on my E90... Why now?
Hey everyone,
Long story short. I drive a 2006 E90 325i Sports Package. I had TPMS on my OEM E90 Sport Package wheels and there were no problems. I took those off in the winter and installed Winter Steelies with normal winter tires, not RF. I had no problems in the winter and never had the light come on my dash. I recently bought 19' wheels and tires, and installed them and now my TPMS monitor stays on my dash all the time. What happened? What changed? How do I turn it off and why didnt it happen with my winter tires? Thanks a lot for the help! |

Help! TPMS Light is on my E90... Why now?
The tire pressure may have changed? I would check the tire pressure and then reset the TPMS button.
Let me know if that works. |

2006 does not have TPMS, it has FTM which has no sensors and is based on wheel speed. you need to reset the system. you probably switched to staggered rims and tires, 235/35 and 265/30 are slightly different in diameter. thats whats setting off the alert. a reset will fix it. remember that you need to reset then drive until the light goes out.

Can you retrofit the old system in place of the new? I hate the TPM system having more stupid issues with it when nothing is wrong. Working on an .xlf file that should cancel out the entire TPM system will see how it goes.

Thanks A LOT for your help so far, but I have no idea on how to reset the FTM!
And yes I did just install a staggered setup. Anyone can help me with that? Thanks |

You reset it by using the buttons on the indicator handle. Just take a look in the manuel.

Like others said, definitely just need to reset the FTM.
Funny thing, I just brought my car to discount tire to have a tire patched. He tried to sell me a TPMS rebuild kit and I told him my car doesn't have TPMS. He said if it has RFT's it HAS to have TPMS. I said "ok, but you're wrong, my car doesn't have TPMS sensors". When I picked it up another tech told me my car is missing TPMS sensors. I also told him he was wrong, they are not missing.

TPMS is a Poor Design
I cant believe the gyrations one must go thru in order to reset the TPMS on an 07 E90. Its almost like the designer wanted to punish anyone who let
a tire get a few pounds low or God forbid changed or rotated tires. The procedure is ridiculous, waiting 30 minutes, pushing the menu button with the car off, pushing the iDrive button to get to the settings menu, then rotate iDrive to settings, then rock iDrive down, select tires, then rock the idrive back to the top, then select TPM then when you see the reset line start the car but DONT drive and quickly hit the iDrive button to tell it you want to reset, then start to drive, when it asks "do u want to reset" rotate the the iDrive to select yes and depress the iDrive, now drive the car for several miles and pray it resets, if not wait 1/2 hour and do it all over again!!! Really user friendly huh? |
