Z4 twin turbo vs Boxster S

Z4 pricing out, so which would you pick?

z4 Fully loaded sdrive35i OR

boxster S lightly option

they both should be around the same price. Pick your car if those 2 were your only choices.

Z4 - Better equipment for the price, Better engine, fresher looks (the average person wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the new Boxster and the original), metal top (a downside to some but for me it's v. important). I only see two major downsides: Not as good driver involvement in the Z4 (I'm going to be driving on real roads, not the Nurburgring, so this is not a problem for me) and the badge (Porsche > BMW).

The Boxster S might win a road race (it would be mostly a driver's race), but life-cycle costs, livability, and general elegance much favor the BMW. On real roads in real traffic, handling characteristics would be a wash (both superb). The hard-top roof is a nice plus for the Z4. And you don't have to buy the big gold necklace that driving a Porsche requires.

But if you need the hardtop then the Z4 is a good compromise. The Boxster S is one of the best handling cars in the world.

the new Z4 seems more classy. porsche makes a quality car, but the boxster seems so common....everyone has one. i like to stand out a little bit. i'd take even a standard 3.0 Z4 over a Boxster S
