Tail of the Dragon Meet - 12-15 Oct
This meet was started by a few of us e63/64 guys but we want all Bimmers to be represented. Focus is on a running the Tail of the Dragon (TOD) in NC and TN.
See this web site for the flavor of what we are looking at. http://www.tailofthedragon.com/ Most of us are bringing wifes, but most of our wives are not interested in "aggressive" driving. Therefore, we are targeting the TOD run for Friday without those spouses or SO (if u bring'em) that do NOT want to get dizzy Then we plan a more sedate run (those that want to break away can) on Saturday to have some turist time, nice lunch and all. Depart on Sunday. Plenty of B&Bs in Ashville but they fill up fast for October. http://www.ashevillebba.com/ Those arriving on Thursday (as we are) plan on meeting for dinner (location not specified yet). Other details will be flushed out as we go. You may PM me for more info. We have about a dozen so far including M6s, M5s, 645/650 coupes and cabrios, other 5ers and 3er. Even an e24 or two. Come one, come all. If and when u indicate joining up we will add u to group email for updates as we go. Please join in the fun. BTW, participates are coming from Toronto, NY, NJ, MS, FL, AL and maybe even NC The meet is on the October calendar in the Meets section where u can add yourself to the list. Ask away if u have any questions. |

Sure, did. Myself (cobradav elsewhere) and others (GMAN or BMW650i). Its in Roadfly e63 and e24, E60.net, B i m m e r fest 6 series, and M6board. Not everybody crosses forums so we might miss some folks really interested in a meet but stuck looking at their own series (3,5,6,7, M). The only meet I have participated in within my state (FL) was with some e28 and e24 types. Loved it. E60 and e63 guys talk, but no do

I've been on the Dragon a few times - it is my favorite road
I'm supposed to be there in September or October with the S2000 community, but maybe two Dragon meets in a row isn't a bad thing You're smart to talk about wives and S.O.'s up front.

Back from the TOD meet. One really great super fast run, then 2 good runs with some fast portions but some obstructing traffic.
Besides the great TOD, we found some other fine roads as well. But for me one of the best times was a breakout three of us did on the Cherohala. Nearly 50 miles of fine twisty, rolling hill roads with me sandwiched between an e60 M5 (leading) and e63 M6 (trailing). At one point we had 35 miles with no other traffic in sight - we ran at nearly 95% of car/driver capabilities leaving that little margin for the unknown around the 15, 20 and 25 MPH corners that we did at oh I'd say something higher than that. The focus and concentration it took was just as much as the TOD took. Over the entire 50 miles we only came upon 2 cars that we overtook with ease. Exhilarating to say the least. Lots of pics and will be some videos later over on these forums. http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/sho...286#post877286 http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...=153220&page=7 Planning on doing it again in conjunction with Sharkfest East in Asheville, NC 20-22 April 2007. Will post more later. |
