Official news release on 2007 G35 with 306 hp

It's official. The new Infiniti G35 sedan will have 306 hp engine. The 5 speed automatic will have Downshift Rev Matching with magnesium paddle shifters.

http://www.nissannews.com/infiniti/n...20010813.shtml

The 2007 Infiniti Lineup - Charting the Changes [July 20, 06]

Infiniti continues to set the bar in the sport luxury segment, with a strong selling lineup of award-winning vehicles, including two J.D. Power and Associates “most appealing” awards. The 2006 model year saw the introduction of the all-new Infiniti M sedan, and now 2007 marks the first redesign of the G35 Sedan.

The revised 2007 G35 Sedan, which goes on sale in November 2006, features a dramatic new exterior design and a refined interior with unique features. Available advanced technology systems include RearView Monitor, a touch screen navigation system with available real-time traffic information and the audiophile-quality Infiniti Studio on Wheels™ by Bose® high-fidelity audio system. Powering the latest G35 is an upgraded version of the award-winning VQ-series 3.5-liter DOHC V6, rated at 306 horsepower. The standard V6 is mated to a choice of a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission on the G35 6MT model or a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and Downshift Rev Matching. The G35 Journey model equipped with the optional Sport Appearance Package includes magnesium paddle shifters. The 2007 G35 is also offered with Infiniti’s “intelligent” all-wheel drive system.

The overall Infiniti lineup continues to evolve - the award-winning M sedan receives enhancements for 2007 including new 18-inch wheels, 10-way adjustable front passenger seat and new option packages; the Infiniti FX receives minor changes including pre-wiring for an iPod, FX45 receives power-folding sideview mirrors; G35 Coupe receives standard Intelligent Key and auto on/off headlights; and the QX56 features a new exterior color and revised engine tuning for the 5.6-liter DOHC 32-valve V8 engine for increased horsepower and torque.

Following is an overview of the Infiniti Division products for the 2007 model year:

2007 Infiniti G35 Sport Sedan

The first major redesign of Infiniti’s award-winning sports sedan was unveiled at the 2006 New York International Auto Show. The new G35 sedan was designed to meet the high expectations of Infiniti owners, who have embraced the original G35 and seek a continuation of its unique combination of vibrant design, exhilarating performance and advanced technology.

The 2007 G35 sedan exceeds these expectations, with an evolution of the platform, interior and exterior style, and the next generation of the award-winning VQ-series V6. The redesigned interior combines modern warmth and Japanese design cues, and technologically the G35 sets the bar for features available in its class, including available touchscreen navigation system with real-time traffic information and audiophile premium audio system that brings studio quality sound to the road. The G35 sedan also offers customers the choice of a 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission, rear- or all-wheel drive, and option packages covering the spectrum of style, on-road and in-cabin performance.

Highlights of the 2007 G35 Sedan include:
· Available in four models – G35, G35 Journey, G35x AWD, G35 6MT
· Option packages include Premium Package, Navigation Package, Satellite Radio Package (with choice of XM® or Sirius™), Technology Package, Performance Tire & Wheel Package and Sport Appearance Package
· New exterior with seductive surfaces, sculpted grille blades, iconic headlights and taillights
· Refined interior with unique features such as the white-and-violet Fine Vision gauge illumination and high-touch, textured aluminum-alloy trim with “Washi” (traditional Japanese handmade paper) patterning
· Available RearView Monitor
· Available touchscreen Infiniti Navigation System with available XM® NavTraffic™ with real-time traffic information and a 9.5 gigabyte audio server
· Available audiophile-quality Infiniti Studio on Wheels™ by Bose® premium audio system – combines the industry’s first 3-way front door speaker array using 10-inch woofers with an audiophile quality head unit incorporating double oversampling 24-bit 96KHz Burr Brown® Digital Audio Converters
· Magnesium paddle shifters for the G35 Journey model with Sport Appearance Package
· Standard Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition
· Available Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) with Preview Braking
· Standard High Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-xenon headlights
· Optional Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), which automatically controls the headlight lighting pattern according to steering angle and vehicle speed to help provide better visibility at night
· Fourth-generation VQ-series V6, approximately 80% of major parts redesigned, highlights include increased crank journal and pin diameters, addition of standard variable exhaust cam timing (eCVTCS), a higher rev limit (increased from 6,600 rpm to 7,500 rpm) and higher compression ratio (10.6:1 versus the previous 10.3:1), asymmetric piston skirts, twin knock sensors, improved coolant flow and new Iridium spark plugs

Meh. They're obviously looking to undercut Lexus and BMW in price again - the more that comes out about this car, the more I start to think that the second gen G35 is going to have the same flaws and drawbacks as its predecessor (poor fuel economy, cheap interior, etc). Such a pity.

This WILL be the E90s number 1 contender. The IS is just to small for americans and there is no manual transmission. The TL is FWD. The G35 I think will do very well, assuming that Nissan corrects its predecessor's minor flaws of poor MPG and sub par interior. The set of features that comes along with this sedan looks to be promising, and Im think that they will have corrected the MPG issue going by the rated hp, I think they lowered the hp to get better gas consumption from the engine. Anyway, this is good new to Nissan fans ( like myself) and car enthusiasts.

Our engines use a combination of magnesium and aluminum, and regardless they are almost identical in weight, with one weighing around 12.0 grams per mole and the other 13.0 grams per mole.

I think this is going to be an interesting competition. I am a BMW owner, but this new Infiniti has got me thinking. Can't wait for the test drives. The interior in the new Infiniti is not "cheap" -- although I think it looks better than the 335i interior pics we have seen so far.

hmm... Time will tell.. and competition is always good.

I just don't like the lines of the G35, old or new. And the new one has those really awkward hood shut lines that only really look good on Ferrari's and classic cars.

This is what I have learned from owning a E90: If you are on a tight budget for a new car, a german company should not be the number 1 place to look, a japanese company should be. Simply because you get more for your money. But for driving dynamics and driving fun, germans all the way. But I think Nissan/ Infiniti is their closest comp.

I don't agree. I think Lexus is better built, more stylish and quite frankly a more credible brand than infiniti

It doesn't really look much different, more like a refresh. The interior is still ugly, so I would never buy one.

Good point, but I'm sure some tint would help keep the temp down.

i disagree with the G35 being a contender for the BMW e90. The G35 doesnt even compare to the amount of units Lexus sells per month for the IS line. and the IS doesnt even come close to giving the e90 a run for its money as the e90 moves over 10k units per month. So you do the math on that.

Here's an example, June 06 sales figures.

You all are comparing a car that was released four years ago to a brand new modeled car that has not been our for more than a year. The IS is too small and not nearly a good enough contender for the G35. Look at what you see more on the road, first generation IS300s or G35s. Here in Maryland there are many more G35s and this will likely remain once the 2007 G35 is released.

Another thing to add is how Infiniti performance and handling wise has been considered the next best thing to a BMW, in conparison where BMW leads in different vehicle categories. For example where the BMW X5 is rated as the best handling and having the best driving dynamic the closest SUV is the FX35. Also the best midsize sedan is the 550i, also rated next in line is the M45. Im not saying that Infiniti is closing in on BMW, not that at all. All im saying is that Infiniti in the Japanese market carries the best performance vehicles and they are the closest in competition to BMW.

This car is going be around 38-42k loaded w/ nav.

Compare that to the 328i.. which is gonna run u about 41k w/o nav.

306hp vs 230hp? And G35 has more features like shift paddles, rev matching down shifting,..etc and even an LSD!

One of the biggest thing that Infiniti had of BMW was a lower price.
