335i engine oil level question

My i-drive showed 4 green blocks when I checked my oil level instead of the maximum of 5. I also checked using the stalk on the steering wheel and the dash display showed a little less than the max line (a little to the left of the word "max"). I added almost a quart with no change. I am afraid to add more for fear of over filling. any advice would be helpful.

How many miles? what's your driving style? Don't add any oil unless you are prompted to by the car. At 5000 miles my car told me to add a quart, I didn't add a full quart I went in 1/4 quart increments then checked again.

It's pretty normal for new cars to burn a bit of oil, especially cars with turbos. I wouldn't add anymore oil since you're not running low. Just to be safe, keep a quart in the trunk inside of a sealed bag.

Did you just pour it in and check it right away? Or did you drive it before checking the level again?

I always pour, drive and check (when the car has reached it driving temp) - that's what I was taught. That is why I would only pour 1/4 of a quart at a time. I do this on all of my cars. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

if a low oil warning come one in our cars that generally means to add a quart. but you are correct in filling it and then driving, as the car takes a little while to adapt to the level and give a correct readout
