Angry Bluetooth Problems - MPX220 & opinions on Razor

I am having problems getting the bluetooth to work with my Motorola MPX220. I know it is not on the approved list, but there are sporadic reports out there that it works, and other reports that it doesn't work. When connected it seems to work fine, however the bluetooth connection drops after about 15 seconds... it won't hold it.

Anyone got the MPX220 to work?

Also if anyone has a Razor, how is it working with the BMW Bluetooth and how do you like the phone? Is the limited phonebook functionality a problem for you? Anyone have any luck getting cingular to replace a phone even though your still in contract?

Thanks!

Hi MythMaker,

I have the Moto V3 RAZR, and I'm extremely happy with the performance with Bluetooth. Set it up once, now every time I get in my car the phone stays in my briefcase, but immediately pairs up with the car ready for use. Never dropped a call, never had any cut-offs or any problems whatsoever, and I use it often!
The battery doesn't last very long though...

I don't know what you mean by limited phonebook functionality - mine transfers the entire phonebook without any hassle.

I heard the phone only allows one number per contact. So to have a mobile, home, and business number... you need to have three contacts. Most other phones group them, and so does outlook.

I have iDrive and the MPX220 connects fine, it just doesn't stay connected.

For the IDrive: Goto Settings, Communication Settings, Bluetooth, Devices... While it is on this screen, go into your phone, active bluetooth and do a search. It should find your car, enter any passcode. Now your car should pop up a message about your phone connecting. Enter the same password and you should be set.

Make sure bluetooth on the car and phone are both on first.

I do not know the instructions for non-iDrive, but I believe you have to go into the menu, into phone... and not by pressing the phone icon on the stereo.

FYI -- I just got the Razr V3 for T-Mobile (they just started supporting this phone last week), and it seems to work great... I found that I neeeded to rename my contacts to include "(W)" "(M)" or "(H)" in order to mark the different phone numbers (before it would just have multiple listings of the same name for each person)...

Prior to that I had the SonyEricsson Z600 which also worked great...

The phone will allow multiple numbers (work/mobile etc) for each contact, but if you set up your phone's contact list in that manner it will not lend itself well to operation with the E90 Bluetooth.

If you just set up one contact with multiple numbers in the phone, the phone book will copy over to the car and show the same contact name in one line entry for each number, but all with the same name. For example if you have "Bob" and a mobile, home, and work number in your phone (all under one contact name)... this will import three entries into the car. All will just list "Bob" and then the number. So if you can't identify Bob's work phone by recognizing the number on the E90 screen, you are sunk.

I found it works better to make separate entries in the phone for each number... ie. "Bob Work." This will import "Bob Work" into the E90 and you can see "Bob Work" on the screen. If you have voice command, it will also recognize "Bob Work."

This method also lends itself to storing you contacts on the SIM chip instead of the phone in case you change phones.

Hope this helps.

I absolutely LOVE the Razr. The battery time and RF reception RULE!

I switched from Verizon to Cingular for it. Well worth the $175 early termination fee. After a few tweaks, it now pairs perfectly with the car, phonebook and all.

When you are trying to pair your phone, don't forget to go into the setting on your phone.

Menu
Tools
Connection
Bluetooth link
Setup
Find Me (turn power on if needed)

Back
handsfree
[look for devices] - this is the one I forgot.

You should have your car looking for your phone while doing this.

Hope this helps.

My MPx220 also drops and does not connect all the time either. I will more than likely go back to my V600 since the address book wroks fine and everything is seamless. I tried ti and seems to work excellent using that phone.

So you are in essence expanding the phonebook in your Razr to accomodate multiple numbers under one name? To do this for the 300+ contacts that are in my SMT5600 would take the rest of my life. Shame on BMW for not making a better interface.
