Things BMW has done very well on the E9x: Cruise Control
I've had the pleasure of several long drives in my 07 E90 in the last 2 weeks, and it has reminded me just how good this car is. For all the talk of electronic gremlins, failed fuel pumps, etc., it was nice to just enjoy this amazing automobile for what it is. I've owned many cars (over 50), and I still think the 335 is the best all-around vehicle I've had.
So many things are done right on the car, starting with handling dynamics and feel. Just about perfect, frankly, for a sport sedan. Rock-stable at speed, agile and unflustered in the twisties, and quite capable when pushed. There is no-better sedan regarding steering feel and feedback, and precious few cars at all (NSX is a tad better, the 911s, and a few Italian exotics; my Vette isn't as good) As for a specific feature, actually I would pick the cruise control! It's just a wonder on this car, perfect controls, intuitive, firm and easy to use. A light push or pull gives a 1 mph change/a firmer push/pull takes you to the next 5mph increment and so on. Fabulous. In fact, nearly all the controls on this car are just outstanding: good feel, ergonomics, and position (exception: window controls on the doors). Cruise dynamic braking on hills is flawless and holds speed perfectly, and my favorite feature is the tell-tale indicator on the speedometer. It's just too-cool to watch the indicator rotate up to the set speed. This is common on aviation instruments, but rarely used on autos. We tend to complain alot around here. It's easy to forget just how good this car is. Forgive my Friday essay, I honestly look forward to driving the 335 here in New Mexico and it puts me in a good mood, thanks BMW! |

Yup the CC on these cars is great IMHO. I had to drive from SD to Chicago in an 03 LR Disco, and I about got whiplash from the application/release cycle of the vehicle's throttle. I had to stop using the cruise because it was just an annoyance. In this car, although I about never use it, it really is smooth. However, I did notice it manages about 2-3 less mpg, as per the readout, than it would if I was piloting it at the same speed on the freeway.

I agree, this is the best car I have ever owned. It is even better with Quaife LSD, M3 suspension parts, M193 rims & non-rfts, BMW performance springs & dampers.
In regard to the CC, it does work with great precision. However, I preferred the ergonomics of the E46 version with the buttons on the steering wheel. I dislike taking my hand off the wheel to find the CC stalk, avoiding the upper light stalk. I get better mileage using CC long distance than with it off.

Funny, I was just thinking about it this morning.
I like the CC controls quite a bit too. I agree that BMW implements this feature quite well.

I personally like the alloy oil resivor,, and how it is made and set up. Buillet?
The braking on hills is nice too. Another is the 50-50 weight, the car feels so flat like a 2x12 board. Great all round car,,,,, My idea here is when its due up next year ,, what other car is going to be better at the $29k buyout? Even a brand new car? I do like to get new cars thou. Having a great car like this,, makes that harder. Now isnt that a bytchhhhhhhhh? |

Agree about CC. Bluetooth on these cars is about as good as it gets, too.

Same boat as OP (tread wear/cars) & also agree w/ above comments.
Zero complaints & kudos re. cruise control, CA, PDC. Put in a recent 800 mile round trip to SF college shopping w/ middle daughter with ample twisties enroute (Hwy 20/16) & cruise use (Hwy 101) and can also applaud the sport seats & steering column telescopic adjustment.
