E90/92 carseat

I'm thinking of getting another 335i. This time I'm contemplating on the E92, but my dilema is that I have a 3yr old, and have a need for a car seat. I did search on the board and found some info, but wanted to see how the seat installs in the back. Does it have to be on one of the sides or can you install it in the middle (I know you can't seat a person in the middle, hence the question). Thanks.

By the way, since being stationed in Germany I can now get it at factory pricing and don't want to wait for the LCI E92, as I think that the M-pack E92 is how it should be. I like the new E90 LCI, except for those extra creases in the hood.

If you are getting an e92, the booster seats / child seats can be put on each of the rear seats. The middle won't work for that car (for obvious reasons).

I never tried mounting a carseat in the middle, isn't that unsafe compared to the sides? I've got my kid's on the side and there's plenty of room. Don't know about space in the coupe though.....

Actually the middle of the backseat is the safest location to mount a child car seat. Just think of what will happen if you get T-boned. In the E92/3, however, it cannot be done becasue there isn't any seating space in the middle. Also, it is a pain to buckle in a child in a coupe because of the poor access to the back seat.

You can definitely install the car seat in the rear of an E92 - but only on one side or the other. I know - because I installed one myself.

Here's my seat. It is a bit of a pain to buckle my son's seatbelt every time. I'm 5'9" 150 lbs., so I get in and out alright. Different story if I was 200 lbs.

Thanks all, I figured it's impossible to mount a carseat in the middle of the E92, just wanted to see what others did.

Thanks for the pic. Looks like you both have matching upholstery.

I can confirm that the Recaro Signo fits facing forward on the e92 behind the *passenger* side only in my case. It really depends on how far back you slide the driver seat but it's tight either way.

Out of curiosity, why do some of you say that you can't install a carseat in the middle? Yes, the LATCH anchors are only available in the outboard positions, but surely you can use the seatbelt to secure the seat, no?

Thanks,
Chris

I think most are referring to the e92 when we say the carseat can't be installed in the middle.

Ah, no middle seat at all in the back of the coupe, I guess. Thanks for the reply.

That was my original question as well. I pulled a pic and you can see that in E92 there is a panel/console in the middle. I wonder how stable would the carseat be sitting on top of it secured to the latch anchors.

I didn't realize the coupe was only a two seater in the back when I posed my question.

As it is, though, I wouldn't risk it. If there's no seating position there's also probably no anchor for the top seat strap. You might be able to click the seat in place, but I doubt it would be anywhere near as secure as it needs to be.
