Fell into Satan's pothole

this happened last weekend just been busy well here goes. I was in the hollywood area after having a great time, on the way driving home i turned on a corner and into the biggest pothole yet. it litterally felt like i had run over a curb or something. there was a total of four people in the car including me. it ended up leaving a dent right on the right side bumper looks like if someone uppercutted my front bumper. im very bummed out well the car seems to be riding alright. took it to the dealer and they quoted me over $1000. i was thinking of taking it to an independent body shop to see if i could get a better price but i dont know any. if anyone could recommend me one i would appreciate it thanks. im in the LA area i just hate to see my bumper this way or maybe i might leave it this way and buy myself a new bumper later down the road what do you guys recommend?

heres some pics

the bumper is plastic, for the time being you can reach behind it and pop it out, in terms of the paint damage, you'll need to go to a shop to get an estimte

GL w/ the repair

After popping it out..you could just buy a carbon fiber / or painted lip and just put it on...you'll probably spend less and it will cover all the damage.

i'd submit a claim with the city... chances are though, with the economy the way it is, they probably won't pay out...

what were the cross streets?? and i'm with the above, i'd like to see pics of this pothole that caused that kind of damage... looks more like it was a ditch...

It must have been a huge pothole.

Did you check the tire and wheel for damage?

In all seriousness, I hope it works out for you. As suggested, try taking the bumper out, popping out the dent, and covering it with a lip. Worse comes to worse, take it to a local body shop. Check the yellow pages and look for some reviews.

Usually i see people's rims bend or break when they hit pothole...rarely do i see the wheel being fine and the bumper being messed up...

like canuck said, try to reach around behind and pop it out....then buy some splitter/lip and cover it up...

I would check and see if there was any way that the city will pay for it being that they should be fixing holes before they get that large.

Unfortunately a good body shop would probably cost about the same as the dealer. You can try a couple and see though: Seidner's Collision Centers and Marco's Auto Body are two.
