How hard to you drive your car?

So i just got my 06 325i with sport package this weekend and i have been driving the crap out of it because its fun. After taking it up to 120 on a back road, i started to think that myabe i shoudl back off it if i want it to last. It only has 21 thousand miles on it and was serviced last at 19000 miles. wanted to know how hard you other bmw drivers driver ur cars every day.

I drove more intensely when I first got the car. Now I am just tired to drive average because I have issues with inspection and tint, and an upcoming court date for speeding.

Redline it every time I drive it. Doesn't mean I'm going triple digits, just means I go WOT all the time and push it.

36k and no unusual problems.

My philosophy is accelerate fast, and drive relatively close to the speed limit. most of the fun is the acceleration anyway

Took it realy easy till 1200 miles always shifting below 4k. Started to take it a little harder now, still yet to really push it. To much construction around here. Prolly will just WOT it a few times on the way to ATL tomorrow. I know its not a 335 but wanna see what it can do.

If you want your engine to last, just follow these simple rules:

1. Do not race it when cold - let it reach the operating temperature first. To do that, do not let it idle - instead, get going but be easy on it.

2. Do not lag the engine to the point it starts pinging. This is the worst for it. Keep the revs up, at least above 2000 rpm.

3. Every now and then (at least), rev it up high - this will ensure there will be no carbon deposits on valves. Mechanics will tell you that those babying their cars too much usually have the engines in a rather bad condition. There even is a cure for that (called "Italian tune-up"), where a car is put in a low gear and then driven around for ~10-15 minutes at very high RPM.

Anyone confirm? 1500 i cruise around and it doesn't bog at all..BMW claims full torque at 1600..
And my dad babies the shit out of his car, I doubt he has ever floored it and his cars last him forever I don't think sense Ive been alive he's had 1 single problem with anything engine related.

Baby her until I reach operating temps.. then WOT ALL DAY!!!

I just can't help myself, I see myself getting in a lot of trouble with her... then, I'll probably calm down. Nothing like a couple of tickets to learn self restraint.

There is a big difference between going fast and driving a car hard.

Treat the car right, drive smoothly, service it way more than BMW tells you is necessary and you can rip 0-60s, drive 120 mph, push it hard in the turns as much as you want.

Abuse the clutch, treat the shifter like you're stirring rocks, drive through potholes, run 15K on an oil change, drain your tank every time and you'll be sorry.

Simply put - Drive it smooth and fast and change the oil every 7500 and you'll be fine.

Your engine is different (N54, biturbo) - the 325's engine (N52, N/A) does not even reach the nominal torque until ~2500-2700 RPM. 1500 RPM is still rather low, even for the N54.

As for your dad's cars, it does not mean the engine will inevitably fail - it just means that it is not in a top shape.

Loading the engine up at low RMP. E.g., if you cruise, say, at 1300 RPM and then stomp on the gas pedal. You will hear the crunchy sound from it - that's pinging. Would be even more pronounced if you are going uphill.
