June'09 Car & Driver Comparison (328, TL, G37, A4)
The June 2009 issue compares the 328i, A4 2.0T Quattro, TL SH-AWD, G37 Sport. The 328i won again! It won their last comparison test (Jan 2008).
It did 0-60 in 5.9 and 0.92 on the skidpad. |

The 328 won because it's the best overall sports sedan. The G37 is a lot quicker and therefore more exciting, but the 328 is the better overall car and more fun to drive.

I have no idea what C & D is doing when they drive their cars, but 5.9 is not a believe 0-60 time for the 328i.

They got 5.6 on the 330i so I guess that sounds reasonable.

C&D always seems to squeeze the best 0-60 times of the cars they test. I've been following their road tests for decades. 5.9 is believable but most of us couldn't match it.

BMW claims 6.3s with the 6MT and their numbers are always conservative. AOL Autos, Edmunds, and other reviewers have recorded anywhere from 6.0-6.2s. Under ideal conditions another tenth is plenty possible. Comparatively, BMW claims 6.9s with the Step.

Is it possible that those times made with 1-foot-roll-off instead of from stop?

I've read countless 328 vs 335, 3 series vs G35/G37 and 3 series vs TL threads on this forum. I've also read countless comparison tests in the major car magazines. I've also driven most of the contenders. This seems to be how they compare from an enthusiast's perspective:
335 > 328 > G37 > (IS, TL, A4, C350) |

It's the BMW feel of precision, just compare them both. I find it pretty easy to tell the difference. On paper though the g37 is a very good contender with the 335.

C n D adds 1 foot rolls to there 0-60mph which make them about .2 sec. quicker to 60 then some will assume or see. so a full stop 0-60 would come in around 6.1 here.
Edmunds/insideline gives both if you ever looked at there spec sheets. But i cant agree more here, the 328i is def the more better car all around!! esp. in Mt

haha don't they say the 335i is 4.8? They stated that they have drank the BMW cool-aid. BMW cannot possibly make a car that they don't give #1 to in a comparison. Didn't they also rate the new M3 over the Carerra, which gets like 27 mpg on the highway while the M3 gets 19?

It's all about which car is the best overall sports sedan. It's not about which car is better in one or two categories. The 3 series has been considered the best overall sports sedan for a long time.
